Might be moving from a 335i to a 135is (Carbon Black) - DON'T FLAME ME FOR ASKING ?'s
Hey folks,
I spend most of my time over on E90Post as I have an E92 335i. I'm thinking about selling the car as the wife and I have some other plans and we would like to save a few pesos...I'd like to get a smaller car and the Cayman S is out of reach as my wife almost punched me in the face when I told her the price lol (so the 135is fits the bill). I'd be leasing so ideally I think the "is" model is the way to go for the wheels and exhaust. I'm curious about two things:
^^I asked because I spent the past two hours searching and I found nothing lol. It seems like a great color and I could imagine that with a red seats - it's a perfect combo! Is this a newer color which is why you don't see many of them?
I'd be leasing my car but will be lowering and tuning it...so I figued I'd look at my options. From what I've seen all of the newer 135's come with the N55... I think I'd be going with a 6spd as well. I like being in control of the gears! Also - in all reality is the "is" worth the extra cash? The exhaust sounds great from what I've listened to online...but what are the differences between the "i" and "is" models...I mean you can get the regular 135i with MSport so they look the same. Any help would be appreciated - especially from someone who might have had an E90/92 at some point! Thanks folks! |

135is = N55
135i + M Sport Package + Performance Exhaust + 313 wheels + PPK (+20 hp) + special interior option (if you choose it) + contrast black mirrors = 135is. for me the 135is was worth it, as those are all options i wanted---and when i priced it out it on a 135i it got to that price anyways so it was a no-brainer for me. The 135is is SUCH a cool package. Carbon black is a fairly common colour in terms of popularity. The 135is order charts floating around show that it's one of the more common colours on there, if i recall correctly. As for its popularity on here...hmm, i'm not sure why it's not more popular. the 135 is a much more direct, agile, and fun to drive car than the E92 IMO. I have never owned an E92 but have spent considerable time driving them.....the 135 simply feels a lot more connected and 'compact'.....like you are a part of the process, rather than you are just pulling along a process. |

You sir are the man. I appreciate the info. I've built them both and priced them out and the "is" is about $2,600 more. I figured the exhaust and wheels are worth it...and it's honestly not that much more of a price tag. $2,600 isn't cheap...but in all reality I think it's worth it. Then again...I probably won't keep the wheels on for very long and so I'm spending an extra $2,600 for an exhaust lol. Plus I'd be tuning the car so the PPK doesn't really matter once I tune it right? From what I've heard and read October is the deadline to order one...so I have some time. |

Just look at E46 M3's in black, most are either Carbon or Jet. Carbon has quite a bit more purple to it.
Interesting color but once for having a black car is enough for me.

if you go all out and plan to tune the car and upgrade wheels, I would suggest you save the $. buy a JB4 tune (removable for trips to dealer, $400), buy some wheels, buy the bmw performance exhaust. all for cheaper and more whp than the 135is

First congrats- you won't regret moving to a 135. Getting my second 135 this week- (awaiting delivery) and its been pure driving bliss. I'm getting Carbon Black, its an amazing color. Stand by for pics...
If your leasing - get the 2013is. IMHO here is why If you want to sell the car sometime during the lease, you will likely have more interested parties if you have the 135is vs a 135i. If you decide that you can't live without this car and then buy it at the end of the lease...you'll have the best 1 series shy of the 1M. Do the math on what the extra few thousands does to your lease payment. Will the extra $60 (approx) a month be worth it to you. For me the decision is about 2 things 1. The exclusivity 2. Not having to mess about with mods (got addicted to mods when I had an 2000 Audi a6 2.7T - lots of money spent) Also I've accepted that leasing works for me.. and in 2 yrs 10 months I'll be turning my 135is in for the latest and greatest. Good Luck -

and you can forget about what numbers says here as the amount of excitement you'll experience driving the iS will exceed the sum of its parts.

Save the money, tune yourself, buy nicer looking wheels, get the BMW exhaust, choose your interior trim, and you won't have to look at that silly badge inside the car!

^^^Great points! $60 is a lot of money...but it's a decent dinner or bottle of bourbon so in all reality it's nothing killer! I do like the exclusivity of the "is" as you NEVER see them. It's the closest you can get to the 1M. Also the difference between both cars is $2,600 MSRP so that's about $35 extra a month - so worth it lol Quote:
^^LOL...I hope so. Now I have to get my car sold. I would love to trade it in...but I feel like they're going to hose the life out of me so I'm going to try and sell privately. Quote:
I will tune the car though...so the PPK package will be *POOF* gone as the tune will most likely override it. But at least I have the exhaust, wheels and additional PPK2 package! |

I'll have pics of my Carbon Black 135is up next weekend - I pick it up this Friday and then drive it 700 miles home Saturday. Give me a day to pretty her up and take pics. While I really like the coral interior, I wasn't feeling it with a blue exterior, so I went Black with Blue stitching.
I don't see any purple in the Carbon Black - it's black on a cloudy day and dark blue on a sunny day. I chose the "is" as I like the 313 wheels and I don't really plan to mod the engine/brakes/wheels. I'd like to improve the suspension with M3 components and a limited slip diff. Some of the earlier posters have good points on the 135i vs. 135is - if you plan to tune, add new wheels and such, it may be more cost effective to get the 135i - the only things you would be missing would be the PPK2 additional radiator and the PE |

Here is part of how I made my decision
______________135is________135i BASE_________43250_______39300 Paint___________550_________550 Leather________1450________1450 Cosmetic bits M-Sport____________________1300 PPK1 or JB4__________________400 PPK2 Perf Exaust_________________1129 Rims/Tires Labor Dest___________925__________925 ____________$46175_______$45054 So that gives you only $1100 for wheel upgrade & perf exhaust labor to have a faster car (more HP gained in tune) with less cooling and a potentially compromised warranty. Plus add in the fact that the cosmetic bits and additional badge-ing make others jealous Even if you want to go with the $400 tune on a 135is, that would only give the 135i purchaser $1500 to upgrade rims and add the additional cooling and pay for exhaust + cooling labor (not even discussing the cosmetic bits).

That's true. The only only only thing I really want that the "is" has is the performance exhaust... Would I be able to build a 135i - add on the PE and lease it? If so...that's the best of both worlds... Quote:
Very good point! When I priced them out with options it was just under a $3k difference... |

Wait til you see what those lease payments look like though. August payments appear to be about $100 more per month in August than they were in July. Even using the configurator on bmw's website, they're lil lease calculator as you build it jumped $100 and was showing about $675/mo.

They dropped it to 53%, but added the $1500 build out credit, which doesn't make up the difference. It's still worth it, even though you can get a f30 335 for less.
I had planned to lease then buy, so the extra $$$ credit pushed my decision to buy it. With loyalty, ultimate drive and the turn key, I had a decent chunk to put down. I honestly think this car will be the last of the old school BMW, without electric steer, a.s.s, Eco pro, etc. The F30 335 is a prettier car, but it sure is soft over the bumps, and the 135is seemed alot closer to my E90 335 driving experiences |
