Another 1er added to the collection - more twin turbo goodness

But this time with a difference!

123d - 150kw/400Nm 2L seq TT

Space Grey, Steptronic (with paddles), M-Sport, 18" double spokes.

I have not driven it yet - (picked it up last night) but on the way home, I lined up the 135 and the 123d is no slouch.. I'm used to just blowing most cars off the road, it 'kept up*'.. 3rd seems to pull very strong...

*was a 2-3 cars lenghs behind, instead of 6-7

I have to take the 135 into SBM, can't wait to see the look on Andrew's face when I ask him for a tune for the diesel

Congrates on the car, nice looker.

Can I ask why the diesel instead of a 130?

Obvious isn't it?

150kw/400Nm stock with powerchip (Bluefin) 190kw/500Nm plus economy!!

We did some quick calcs last night - Full tank of diesel (running in period) DTE 700kms! Car will travel max 10kms a day = 70 days before refill... unlike the 135.... full tank ~300kms

Have you seen performance figures for the chipped version, as the standard is definately slower than a 130 and possibly nose heavy?

I like your choice just interested in the comparison.

Would the 2lt 4 cylinder diesel be heavier than a 3lt 6 cylinder petrol? The weight may be more rearward with the diesel regardless. I'd be interested to see the stats.

The diesel I think would be a cast iron engine versus a magnesium alloy, I think??????

The other thing I think the diesel has is the electric steering versus traditional hydraulic??

Still very interested in the comparison though.

The standards are a split second's hesitation apart 0-100 (6.0 for the 130i and 6.7 for the 123d)

All the in-gear acceleration tests would favour the 400Nm 123d

3L I6 heavier than a 2L I4TT - so not nose heavy...

The 130i is a great car - until the 123d came along.

I'm the type who likes the iron fist in velvet glove approach - like with my 135 - most of the GTR/V8 fanboys get a shock when I leave them behind or turn up to the drags in it and run 116MPH

so the 123d does just that all over again... I don't expect it to be like the 135, but when I need to put the foot down... it'll leave an impression, unexpected....

Has electric steering, yet to drive it, wife loves it, she has punted it around and says it is a lighter feel, not has heavy as the 135.

If I get a moment free tonight, I'll give it a good working out

Anyhoo - I'm dropping both cars at Andrew's on Friday

Oh I just notice, well I think I just notice, are they now supplying the 1'er with the larger mirrors seen on the new 3s?

the 120d (in manual form) is quicker from 80-120 than a 125....!

That must be one of the first 123d's delivered in Oz.

as for economy, I'm averaging around 850k's per tank at the moment, and I'm FAR from an economical driver.

I was stopped next to you on Alexandra pde a couple of weeks ago too by the way Eric.

Nice.

My friend Don is looking for one. Also white with red (or tan colour).

From all accounts it's the first registered 'customer' car in Oz...you should have seen all the trouble of getting it insured... virtually no-one had it in their system, meaning no insurance. Ended up going with BMW/Allianz, insured as a 125i (until they get it into the system)...

I did see you on Alexandra - I glanced your way but did not get a response

I'm keen to see when the next refill is... as the car does/will do <10kms a day 5days a week only..

Drove it briefly to 7-11 tonight: impressed..

Mirrors: Yes, they are the larger ones, also the M-Sport seems to be slightly different, rear diffuser looks different, sills also looks different to what I have seen before.

Congratulations! It's an amazing engine isn't it?

I'm pretty sure I will just get another 123d coupe like my current one when I return to Melbourne.

And yes you are right, the 123d is lighter than the 135i.

Bummer about the mirrors, they look too big on a 3 series so I guess they look BIG on a 1'er.
N

Still a nice car though, you have now got me thinking
