55 MPH.

If you want to keep from getting run off the road I'd say 65 MPH.

I've found it to be more like 60, on flat, straight four-lane highways. But you don't lose that much by going 65.

But remember that it isn't just the average MPG for the speed you're maintaining that you have to worry about, it's also the terrain you're on, and the amount of fuel you're burning to get up to whatever speed you're maintaining.

Coasting downhill at 70 MPH with your foot off the gas is going to be better than accelerating uphill to get to 55 MPH.

If you're interested in fuel economy, keep the instant fuel consumption info displayed on your gauge cluster and drive accordingly.

Like JKP says, I've found fuel economy more related to throttle opening rather than speed (assuming you're in 6th of course). Watch the MPG gauge for awhile to get a feel for it. Then stop, since it's too depressing...

Still averaging 22.6 though...

I def am not getting 22 mpg...still avg around 18.8. I usually have short commutes to work (4-7 miles) and city driving. when i did a lot of hwy driving i was 20 mpg +or- 1-2

18.8 for short city commutes is still better than what the EPA says you should get. (It says 17MPG city with a manual.)

I guess this makes you a hypermiler.

Yep, almost all of my driving is highway; very little in town...

to sum that up. I took a 740 mile trip with my dad. The trip was partially highway cuising at about 70 and the rest of the time was spent on twisty mountain roads at about 50 or 60.

The car says that I got 33.6 and my own calculations yeilded 32.8 at an average trip speed of about 60mph
