Is this what everybody else's N54s sound like on start up?

Hi folks, so I'm a bit of a hypochondriac when it comes to car noises. I heard this the other day on the way to work, then today I recorded the sound after starting the car from cold. This video is taken just after the high-revving bit that happens immediately on start up. The car has been running approx a minute at this point. Is his what everybody else's cars sound like? Think it has always sounded like this since I got it about 10 months ago.

It's pretty much what mine sounds like as well. I don't usually tend to pay attention to it too much as it goes away on it's own. Probably something about warming up from the cold start.

most people think the same thing when they hear a direct injection car at the same time.

Yes, on initial start up, mine sounds pretty similar (only 20k on the engine)... then quiets down when her insides are all nice and warm

After that, she's as quiet as a cat... until I step on the gas.

Yeah, you'll never at any point mistake this car for a Prius... that's for sure.

Phew! Glad that's all normal at least. Had guys on the UK forums telling me it sounded awful etc etc, though I did get answers from a 125i, N55, and 116i owner, so that MIT have something to do with it!

Yeah, the N54 is very clicky and clattery from a cold start. As long as it's normal then I can sleep O.K. for now...

Yep- direct injection engines sound a bit different. Completely normal.
