Good Price? Please help!

Hi everyone, bare with me this is my first post.

I can barely afford a bmw 1 series. I should be looking at cars between 20-23k but I like the 128i so much i'm willling to stretch myself a little thin for it. I know this sounds lame but I was interested in a 128i with no options and manual transmission. Not even the bmw onstar type of thing. I contacted a bunch of dealers and was given an "out the door" price of $30,050. The invoice listed is $27,050. So this is basically $300 over invoice or so after distribution fee and taxes. Is this a good deal? Thank you very much for your help.

Out the door for $30k sounds pretty good if it's after all taxes and fees (not sure if you pay all of the in MD).

i don't know what the out-the-door price includes. does it include the tags, doc fees, etc? if so, it may be under invoice. It seems like a good deal, but i'm not sure because all these other dealerships are offering their cars for several thousand dollars under invoice. Like an accord, altima, or hyundai genesis couple, for example.

Thanks again for the help.

Get a printed breakdown for the car and it will be easier to tell if you're getting a good deal or not. Can't speak for Honda, Nissan, or Hyundai but if that's what revs your engine, go for it. You'll get a good deal but will you be as happy as you would with your 128i?

i'm basically definitely gonna go for the 128i. i don't like anything even close, but i was wondering if bmw offered as competitive pricing as the other companies. should i be expecting under-invoice pricing? what's the difference with the invoice i see on kbb.com and the ed invoice? Thanks.

If the car is sitting on the lot you will not be getting European Delivery pricing. Use edmunds.com to find out the invoice price for your car. BMW doesn't compete with many car companies as most of their customers walk in, much like yourself, wanting to drive a BMW. There is much more competition between Nissan, Toyota, and Honda as people tend to cross shop between those brands. Not so much with BMW.

You mean $3000 over invoice? I think the true cost is a bit higher than $27K, but you can do much better than 3K over. Does "out the door" inclue tax/title/license? if so, it's a good deal as is. If not...

Use this site. I punched in a bare bones 128i, and it looks like with some work you can get one for 29,500+ TLL.

http://truecar.com/BMW/1-Series/2009...&zipcode=15213

I was in the position of being barely able to afford a 135i, but got one for 35,800 (cost to dealer was 35,350 as optioned) using this site. Don't ask for a quote. Make an up or down offer of something like 29,200, then increase in increments of $150, but DO NOT increase without getting a counter offer each time. Be prepared to walk away and take it to someone else.

30,050 looks decent (not a rip-off) but it's still above average according to the truecar data. Good luck.

Typically, "Out-the-door" would mean all-in, meaning taxes, title, reg, etc.

It's 30,050 including taxes. I guess that's a good deal?

Just wanted to make sure. That sounds good to me, all in all. I would go for it.

thanks guys very much. this is gonna be hard for me to manage financially, but the 1 series soooo much more appealing in my eyes than a wrx, nissan z, accord, altima, etc.

it looks like a really good deal because the other dealerships i contacted wouldn't match that price.

No car is worth suffering for, but if you can swing it, you will be pleased. It's a car that blows the doors off of the sport-ish coupes, handling wise (accord, altima), retains 4 seater practicality (vs. nissan Z), and doesn't have the boy-racer identity and questionable styling of the wrx.

My 135i is very bare bones and I don't long for the gadgets I didn't buy at all. Feels more 'pure' to boot.

Oh, and the deal is great. As good as it gets.

Take a look at the for sale forum here, there are some very low mileage 135s going very close to what you are paying for a new bare bones 128. My 128 will be pretty much the last new car for me. From now on I will wait out the "hot new car hysteria" and pick up a slightly used one 6 to 12 months later.

out the door...that is a fantastic deal! congrats...we all look forward to the pictures. thankfully you get BMW Ultimate service, so all of the maintenance and upkeep is paid for during the 4year 50000 mile warranty. that should help.

true... it's easy to forget about this, but its worth quite a bit when you get down to it.

I'll join the fray and advocate either buying used or being patient and buying or leasing a leftover model if and when there are good incentives.

Patience is hard to come by when you're in love with a car, but it can save you a ton of money. If you have to buy new at least wait a few months. Once the dead of winter hits there should be some very good lease and purchase incentives on these cars, you can likely get a moderately optioned car for the same money that you would spend on an ordered stripper.
