Your thoughts on Rim protectors
Saw this rim protector solution today, and it reminded me how easy it was to get my first rim knick on the metal curb edges in Manhattan. The BBS CH-R have a metal rim liner that's much sturdier than this plastic one.
What are your experiences? Do rim protectors work, or are they just luring us in a false sense of rim security? |

based on my own bone headed curbage of a few months ago... I would say that the rim protectors are a false sense of security.
they may help avoid parking curb nicks.. but any serious contact with a curb while either driving or parking I would imagine will either displace the protector or simply damage it and the wheel behind it. |

Yea there only useful for the most minor hits
Only real good way to protect rims are with a fat set of tires and we know these cars don't hav much room to play with

The one in the pic comes included with many rims. They are meant to only be on there while shipping or installing the tire. Silly to keep it on after, it won't do anything against a curb.

That's why I try to pick wheels with polished lips. With minor scuffs you can dremel, etc it out yourself.

I do not have before and after pics of any minor curb damage repair on these wheels but I did have to work on them once. If I get a chance I'll post an after repair pic but it really was just a minor curb scrape anyways.
