Anyone else having interior trim problems

I am noticing with the beige interior, that areas that are plastic and painted are getting scratched and the paint is coming off. I have it on the drivers door, where you pull it shut. Probably from my ring. My SA said they would replace, but it seems kind of weak to have to deal with that.

Have had it 9 months, and still love it. In fact convinced 2 friends to buy them as well.

it's aluminum, it's not a hard metal

what did you people expect?

it's not unscratchable just because you paid 5 grand more than a camry

cheap,

it's aluminum

all aluminum is soft, that's why bike frames made of aluminum are thicker than steel frames

you can spend all the money you want on aluminum and it will still be soft.

The AL is not soft because it's "cheap" it's soft because it's AL

The wood trims have a laminated coating on them, like a veneer, that's probably why they are more resistant to scratches

I had aluminum in my A4 with sport package and learned that it scratches and dings...I would fully expect the wood to be more durable due to the laquering, and ordered it so in my 330.

Just be careful with it, stainless steel it is not.

No, it's soft because it is cheap AL - had AL on the Audi A4 and it was much more resistant to scratches - in fact i had none on the Audi.

The BMW AL is a softer composition that the way Audi applies their AL.

I have no experience with the Audi AL,

is it in the same places as the BMW trim? maybe our trim is in a place more likely to get hit/scratched.

does the audi AL seem to have a coating or finish on it?
you can tell by the rough texture that the BMW doesn't have any coating at all on the AL

Just curious about possible differences between the 2 companies

I know the AL they use on the TT looks really nice!

The Audi trim on the door is not on the handle armrest, but rather just under the window sill; however where the seatbelt rests the AL trim is close and can get hit by the seatbelt as it retracts (like the BMW). Otherwise the Audi AL is pretty much in the same spots (accounting for differences in iterior design of the dash etc.).

I think the Audi does have a protective coating, and the surface seems like it is extruded or something (I am no expert), while ours is just brushed and no finish.

I have a Specialized road bike that I ride on the Illinois bike path. The bike is bare aluminum w/ a clear coat. The bike path is mostly fine gravel. Very few scratches on the bike frame.

From working on bikes in the past, aluminum can dent easily.

Interior trim problems? Well, my titanium matte is still fine at 22,000kms.

BUT my driver's side interior panelling has come loose...YES! Service says I have to leave the car and the put in new clips. Can't wait!

Got the TT, therefore I have the AL and no scratches and I fully admit that I haven't treated it as nicely as one should...

your interior trim is getting scratched? Are you running keys across it, or just using a hard towel to clean, etc? I don't have a single scratch on my aluminum, and don't see how you can keep scratching it.? I want to see what you are doing to make sure I don't do the same thing.

some are probably from my ipod getting thrown around in there... but some other ones just seem to show up sometimes.... it is a very very soft material.... just a good reason to get some carbon fiber

Yes. That's why I got the wood vs the metal trim. Metal looks great until the scratches come - and believe me they will come...
