Garage List
Initial observations after a couple of days of reading and driving:

- After driving an E36 four-banger for so long, the power from the six is remarkable.
- The grip and handling is considerably better than my E36.
- The run flats don't ride nearly as bad as some have said.
- Love the sport seats... The bolstering is pretty much perfect.
- Did I mention the power from the six was remarkable?
- The rear seat headrests obscured my rear vision, so I removed them.
- The armrest seems to interfere a bit with my shifting... Never ever having one, I just probably need to get used to it being there.

- Fog lights do not maintain their ON setting when the headlights are turned OFF: they must be switched on each time the headlights are turned on... A nuisance, IMO.
- Radio can be turned on even though the key/remote is not plugged in... It stays on for about 20 minutes.
- No temperature gauge.
- No oil dipstick.
- Holding the UNLOCK button continuously unlocks the door(s) and opens the windows, but holding the LOCK button continuously does NOT close the windows... Odd.
- The passenger side seat remembers its position when you tilt it forward to gain access to the back seat, but the driver's side does not... Odd.
- Various whirring and ka-chunking sounds immediately after the car is unlocked/locked and doors are opened/closed... I guess it's normal...?

Yeah, so do I.

I had some reservations about it when building the car online, but it looks quite good in person, as do the fog lights.

Wonder how hard/easy will it be to change the bulbs when the time comes...

Assuming it doesnt break I actually like the ability to check oil while driving the car. Its nice to know if it starts running low it will automatically tell me.

The drivers side seat also remembers its position just as the passengers, just remember tilt seatback forward until it locks, then slide seat foward.

I have had 2 different sets of run flats, Bridgestone and Dunlop. I greatly prefer the Dunlops for ride.

Yeah fog lights go off when you turn off the headlights, no way around this i've found.

Radio can be activated in most european cars without the key being in. It will auto shut down after 20 min to save the battery.

No water temp or oil dip stick. You can check the oil level from the BC

Yes all modern BMWs sold in the U.S. can roll down the windows but you can't roll-up the windows. This can be fixed by someone who can run NCS Expert and has an ODB cable. I've added the roll-up feature to my car. Read up on programing or coding

Yes the wizzing and chunking sounds are all normal. It's like the car shivers with excitement as you unlock it for a drive! Sounds like a transformer.

You can also roll up the windows by sticking the key in the door key lock and turning it to lock and holding it there. Everything will close. Its a safety thing, so you dont hit the button when you arent looking and roll someones head/arm/leg/appendage up in the window.
The wizzing when you unlock the car is the fuel pump priming.

windows cannot be rolled up automatically due to liability reasons. it's a "safety feature"

the buzzing/whirling after unlocking doors is your fuel pump priming

EDIT: That did the trick.

Two days in, I have the same feeling.

LOL, Jeremy Clarkson said the same thing about the car shivering when he pressed the "M" button on the 1M coupe...

My car has Goodyear NCT5s... The ride seems no worse than the Bridgestones RE760s I had on my E36.

The NCT5 is a summer tire, but is considered "touring", not performance; thus the reasonable ride. I got about 23,000 miles out of the rears on my '08 128i but when I found out the price of two 225/45R17 replacements, I opted for four Conti DWS non RFT all-seasons for $100 less. The Contis grip as well as the Goodyears and ride better to boot with the only downside being a softer steering feel on turn in.

The lack of a temp gauge is annoying, but the one on my E46 was so heavily buffered, it was only useful for determining when the motor was up to operating temperature. For the 128i, you can check the oil level thru the dash and if you get a reading, the engine is warmed up - it usually takes from 2 to 6 miles of driving, depending upon ambient temps.

Enjoy your new 1er!

Ah, that's like my old E36.

EDIT: Tried the key... It doesn't lock the door or raise the windows, but it does unlock it... WTF??

Even more so with the $1000 voucher I got for test driving the new F30 328i.

Yeah, I just checked the price of the NCT5s at Tire Rack: Around $325 each.... Outrageous.
