New observation:

When checking my tire pressures, I noticed that the rear wheel wells are lined with a rough, felt-like textured material while the front wheel wells are lined with smooth, contoured plastic (which is what I would've expected in he rear as well).

Is this normal? Do you guys have a similar setup in your E82s?

The owners manual refers to the Flat Tire Monitor and the Tire Pressure Monitor as if they were two separate functions, but resetting them appears to be the same.

Are they the same or different?

Looking under the hood yesterday... Where's the brake/clutch fluid reservoir?

You will get separate warnings if that is your question, but they get their information from the same system.

Facing the front of the car, it is on the top right of the engine bay under a ~10"x10"(maybe smaller? rough memory) black plastic cover. Driver's side, by the hood strut.

Ah, OK... Totally hidden from view.

Been on the freeway system for extended periods today and I'm just amazed how quickly the car gets up to speed (and beyond ): No fuss or fanfare... It just goes... Terrific.

Slight downside: Gas mileage before today's fill up and drive: 17mpg... All city.

Nope - my '08 manual spells out the difference.

In BMW speak, the FTM system compares rotational speeds of the four wheels through the external wheel speed sensors used for traction control. It is used in Canada, but not in the US since early 2007.

The TPM uses the in-wheel sensors to monitor each tire's psi against the baseline pressure at the last reset and produces a warning when one or more tires drop by about 25%. The warning should indicate which tire is low. Why the US TPMS does not also display the real time psi for each tire (as is found on some cheaper cars) is a mystery.

Doesn't get much better. I'm getting 17.1 with next to no highway and some fairly aggressive daily driving.

Yup, very odd... You'd think that with that rough texture in the wheel wells, they'd get gunked up pretty fast in foul weather.

Can't say that I'm driving very aggressively since I'm still in the break-in period, but I guess the mileage is pretty close to the EPA estimate of 18mpg.

Yeah, I could do much better if I drove like it was still in break in, but then why buy the car if I was going to drive it like that. Definitely not advocating that you should skip or ignore break in, just talking about when it is done.

Highway EPA figure is accurate at ~60-80mph. Starts to drop off rapidly cruising between 100-120mph and completely falls on its face MPG wise over 120 on long trips.

Haha.

But the ear-to-ear grin would surely offset any drop in MPG.

It's definitely very stable and composed at speed, even compared to my M5. Coming from an E36(I know, I had one), it is going to blow your mind.

Way back when, I did hit 125mph with my E30 325is, but it did feel a bit light up front even with its stock front air dam and rear spoiler... And I did have four people in the car.

Now that I look back on it, maybe it wasn't the smartest thing to do.

I just got my wife a 2012 128 and I was just about to post that this is the first BMW where I have no brake dust at all. My other BMW and minis would have dust after one day. I also own a two fiat 500's and there rims stay very clean also no dust.

My 135 averages 19.2mpg with the PPKI installed. Thats with about 80% city driving and I dont have a light foot. Cant imagine why some 128's are getting 2 mpg less. Maybe because they need to spend more time spinning the tach up higher?
