LCI Black lines

I want to update tail lights on my 12 128i from halogens to LCI Black lines. I like the LED bars on the lights they stand out great. Halogens are just too boring. I have a non xenon package, if i install black lines would the LED bars lit? do i need any decoding? or just plug and play.

They don't work without jumping a wire from the middle terminal (black w/blue stripe, IIRC) to the empty terminal of the outside most bulb socket. Not quite the way it's supposed to work as the park/tail bulbs are still lighted in addition to the LED and the LED will vary in brightness with the application of the brakes, but it still looks good. Alternately people have suggested just swapping the middle terminal to the empty terminal spot, but I'd prefer the extra light. I haven't done this permanently yet, but toyed around with a jumper wire in the garage.

.. I installed xenon blacklines on my halogen 2010 128i and they work without issue. When i tried using halogen blacklines they didn't have the running lights working properly. IE they wouldn't turn on under any circumstances. Brake lights and signals worked however.

Short story, get xenon blacklines regardless if youre halogen or not.

So xenon worked on yours without any issue, where did you purchased it from? do you have a pic as well?

ECS tuning has them
Schmiedmann has them also for a bit cheaper.

Except, why is the upper portion lit up without the brakes on? Or is just the sunlight making it look like they are lit up?

I've never really noticed it, but i like it. I think its the rear fogs since in all of these pictures i had my front fogs on. I'll double check this tonight to see if thats the case.

edit: yeah, those are the rear fog lights. here's a pic of when i just turned on the running lights manually(1st position to the right from vertical position).

LEDs do NOT work on LCI cars without fettling. 2013 halogen owner with Blacklines speaking here.

Hm, i didn't know that. I have a 9/2010 build date so i suppose anything before the LCI update will be fine. So what lights up as the running lights on your blacklines without modifications?

Xenon. Again, LEDs will work on an LCI halogen car, it just takes a little creative wiring and NO programming.

Not yet, but I'd be happy to work one up when I get back (from Germany) The easy part is it's just a wire from A to B (actually, I think it was pin 1 to pin 2). The "hard" part is to make it as plug-n-play and reversible as possible. I need to pop the existing terminal out of the connector to make sure of the correct P/Ns, and then I'll work something up. Don't expect an instant post as I'm out of country now, will need to return to Europe fairly soon after I get back, have an M3 strut bar and associated parts staring at me waiting to get installed, and a wife, children and a grandchild all wanting at least a little time from me.

BUT!

Just get the LCI blacklines whenever you can afford them. Everthing will work normally EXCEPT the LEDs. They still look gorgeous, especially on an LMBM car I might add.

^^yes, that is correct. IF you order the halogen Blacklines it will have fake led tubes - and they do not light up!

You need to order the #282 blackline kit for xenon cars. I think as long as its a US model... they should work. At least that is what other forum members here have reported. I think its bc the US cars have a higher content with the lighting package... and the FWM3 are coded to work with the xenon LCI tails.

I would order the #282 Blacklines from Schmeidermann.com

I will reiterate and expound: The LEDs in P/N 63212225282 DO NOT work in halogen equipped LCI 128Is, at least those with a birth date of 2013-01-23.

I would and did order P/N 63212225282 anyway, as I will hook the LEDs up ASAP.

That said, Dack, I get to go to a Dortmund football game Friday! (I'm currently in Essen/Dortmund), and am driving with my friend/company rep to Munich Saturday for some sort of music festival (Turkish Saturday?) "für meinen Geburtstag". You're welcome to join (us in Munich) and the bier is on me.

Ok, thanks for the added info. But if you look at the very last post in this LCI tail light thread... post #26... @andrey_gta said they worked for him. ?

And here is the MEGA lci tail light thread. I am pretty sure there are a few 128i halogens with xenon lci tails on them.

LCI tail lights- can you retrofit them to an 08/08 E82
http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showthread.php?t=512006

BMW does make an adaptor wiring harness for use on LCI tails for some cars. Most guys say you do not need it. But I have seen some say they did need it. bmw p/n 61359240534

Hummm... well have fun and Wilkommen zum Deutschland.

I am not sure what my plans are for Sunday. I might be down in Munich but I am not sure at the moment. I'll let you know if I will be down there. Thanks for the friendly offer and invite.

Turning your front fogs on does not turn your rear fogs on. The switch and wiring for that operation is separate from the front. To enable rear fogs you remove the light control unit from the dashboard, remove the blocked tabs from the unmarked button below the front fog button, and reinstall the control unit.

When turned on, the rear fogs have a separate indicator light on the dashboard.

I apologize. My experience is that:
LCI tail light LEDs work on PRE LCI halogen cars.
LCI tail light LEDs DO NOT work on LCI halogen cars.
This is consistent with what you've posted, and free beer (or whatever) consumption is not predicated on your acceptance.
