Also... (slightly off topic) have you noticed that later 1er's don't have the pronouced crease in the "dumbo" mirrors. BMW must have changed the design for some reason.

I know that Sylon. What I mean is that I have seen two versions of the 2010(and later) "dumbo ears" mirrors. My car is like the photo above. But later on... the mirror design doesn't have the sharp creases like in the above photo. Just look at a 3er mirror to see what I mean. They are big but bloated, no sharp creases. |

Agree with the others...you can use 3M Di-Noc vinyl wrap which is not difficult to do.

Sorry to question your intelligence, lol. My bad, I didn't know there were new-new mirrors. I wish BMW would stick with 1 style and be done with it. No idea why they changed them in 2010, but it makes trying to get CF ones that much more of a PITA. |

Sylon I wasn't upset with you. I meant that crack " I know that" in a tounge and cheek way. I think the reason why BMW went to larger mirrors was because of a new EU law. ? All the German car makers have gone to larger mirrors. In the same way why new cars are getting hood mounted airbags and very low leading edge/hoods.(F30) and auto (accident)braking at low sppeds. It is an EU law for more pedstrian safety at low speeds. (I think). I think the second version of the larger "dumbo" mirrors is just BMW being German and refining things over time. Germans never leave stuff alone - they always tinker. I bet it is for wind noise or something like that. Just in the way that BMW was one of the first car companies to "manage" the airflow around the mirrors. Remember the e36 with it's little bubbles on top of the mirror housing. |

Guys this is what I am talking about - with the two styles of "dumbo" larger mirror designs.
new 1er mirror design... this is what I mean by more rounded or contoured design). I think starting on 2011's BMW changed to this more rounded style mirror on the 1er. 1er sculptured design. Used on 2010's and up. Sorry for the OT discusion OP. |
