What are you trying to achieve with a CAI? There is a lot of debate on these forums about the gains of a CAI. It is likely that it won't give you much extra hp!

That been said, a lot of people here have the BMS intake.

^ that. Just installed the BMS on mine yesterday, excellent quality product at an excellent price. And it makes nifty noises so i'm happy with that.

Isn't that more like a short ram intake.

Doesn't it suck all the heat from up under the hood?

Agree. That is not cai. Open the hood after a normal drive from work and feel the cold air. If you are at the track then open the hood with your asbestos gloves.

Because of this my improved intake consists of a k&n in the stock intake.

Haha I get the sarcasm. Open the hood and feel the arctic cold.

If the car is MOVING, there is no real difference on where you put the filter. Makes a difference only after the car has stopped.

The real difference is the length and volume of the tube. Changing those parameters will change the tuning effect it adds at different RPM's. A well designed intake can greatly increase the volumetric efficiency. Although, this is much less pronounced on a turbo motor.

FI cars can actually have volumetric efficiencies above 110% due to finely tuned intakes. The charge entering the intake is actually 10% above atmospheric pressure. Very cool stuff.

Agree to disagree. Engine compartment is fairly well sealed. Intake air temps measured by obd on my friends 335 were significantly higher using the bms. He loved the sound but removed the intake. The one may be different but I'm not willing to pay to find out.

I am trying to get to see if I can get as close to 450whp as possible without nitrous. I will use meth in the future and I know if I get the Burger Tuning meth kit I can hit the 450whp now but I wanna try without it first THEN add it and get more power lol Has anyone here ever heard of the Gruppe M intakes? Does the 3k sticker on them only exist because of the whole thing being made of carbon fiber? lol I don't have 3k to blow on an intake but I gotta admit its pretty dam bad ass when you pop your hood at Bimmerfest or with friends and they see that xD

I am not a fan of intakes because even BMW said their $1000 intake is worth 3hp. That being said I would look to Drag Times for a clue as to what to buy. All the top 135/335 cars are running some form of a $100 DCI intake

Must not be much air movement under the hood of our 1er's.

I have done several tests on my racecars, placing temp sensors all over under the hood, in the fenders, etc etc. Above about 60 km/hr, they all showed around ambient temps, unless it was directly behind the rad.

yeah agreed. their 1st version of the cai for the 135i was TERRIBLE. the new coupler/seal is great, no issues since they sent me the new design for free...10,000 miles later happy as a clam

You arent going to hit 450wrhp. The record is 391 wrhp on a n55. On a n54 with meth and e85 you can. Fbo with meth will get you 391 wrhp and e85.
