question re: all those ships sailing

The members who are saying that their 1er are on ships being brought to the US bought the cars as ED? or they were just custom ordered through their dealers via the wait list?

if the car does arrive before 3/22, can the dealer give you the car before the official release date?

the ones on ships bound for the US are custom orders via our local dealers.

We custom ordered through our dealers. My dealer sent me an email that as of right now, they haven't been told they will have to hold it until the release date. They said unless they hear otherwise I will have mine as soon as they get it. However, they could hold my vehicle at port or tell the dealer not to release it until the 22nd.

That brings me to another question, what would be the benefit to BMW holding them untill the 22nd if they are ready to go sooner?

i guess they have to abide by the release date. similar to any other hot products that are release: people are trying to get them before it is officially released, but then that wouldn't be fair to others, would it?

thanks for the response BTW. i was wondering how some ppl had ED's already. but i guess that's not the case.

They aren't letting US EDers take delivery in Munich until after the US launch date of 3/22.

The wait is killing me. Especially with Bryan driving around in a AW 1'er!

If I give my CA a call, will he know what ship I'm booked for before it even gets on. I'm still "Awaiting Transport" in the system, but looking at the schedule, I should be any day no, possibly even on the Faust though that may be too soon.

A few possible reasons...

They need time to get the infrastructure in place to support a brand new model before they hit the roads en masse.
They need to finalize the financing details.
They don't want the 1er $$ to hit their books before then.
They're evil SOBs.

They won't even have a ETK/TIS that includes it until the March 2008 edition, so good lucj if you got it, and it broke down, needing to be fixed. There would be no way to effectively diagnose or get parts for it.

Cracka, you are right on the money with those reasons though.

Since BMW USA has to get the cars federalized and approved to be registered on these road, there might be a start date that they can be licensed and insured by somebody other than the manufacturer...
