100 RON in Australia

http://www.unitedpetroleum.com.au/di...-locations.asp

Looks like United are distributing 100 RON fuel here now. Pity they only have one outlet in Sydney metro.

What difference would this make to our cars and their running?

You will get a lot more gains if you have a tune on your car.

Shame it's not in qld.

Given the extra RON is acheved via ethanol, I would check with BMW first to see if our cars are compatible.

My Subaru cannot use this fuel.

the shell Vpower Racing was 100, was good if you got a fresh batch, terrible if it had been sitting in the tank at the servo for a while. I can only assume the Ethanol was more volatile and evaporated out? (or more likely, the ethanol would absorb water from the atmosphere??)

[cynical]
United would be doing this as there is little or no excise on Ethanol, hence more profit for them.

[double cynical]
the lack of excise on ethanol has nothing to do with the countries biggest ethanol producer being part owned by one of our former PM's buddies.....

Speaking of octane levels in fuel, does anyone run their 135i on 95RON. I know it can be done, but I'm curious if anyone does. And further to that, is there a discernable performance drop?

I run mine on 98 only ever since I got an ECU reflash. Before that I would occasionally fill with 95 but did not really notice any difference.

I did once by mistake put 95 in and my tuned engine responded by throwing off a code - misfire I think.

Not true, this is not the only place with 100RON.

There is a petrol station on Windsor Road, opposite the bowling club, just north of Northmead. It is on the corner of Anderson & Windsor Roads, and it sells 100RON.

price check cf. unleaded?

MickyD, you can be friendly with the regular person in the servo. I know of one in Shell. He calls me when the fuel truck comes with fresh fuel.

I still doubt it makes benefit with methanol increase of RON.

I only ever use 98RON but would be happy to pay extra or travel further for 100RON. Apparently there used to be a Shell servo that used to do it a few years back but they've stopped now

I think if it is nearby I will use it. The closest to me is Mulgrave. WTF?

$29.95 a fuel additive is still a more feasable solution.

I'm sure he'd be happy to do so. It's usually still hot when it comes out of the tanker if you live in the same city as the refinery. The pumps at the servo meter volume, not weight of fuel so there's more profit in them selling hot fuel. You get less for your dollar.

How hot is the fuel coming out of the truck?
I can't imagine they are much higher to say 40 degree day.

Fifth gear had mentioned that couple of year ago if you fuel in at a hot day compare with a cold night you will get less fuel. The saving is in terms of pence... not pounds.

Well if it is hot then you will still wait for another day right Let the ethanol settle in

The other downside of too fresh petrol is any sentiments at the bottom of the servo's tanks get stirred up during the tanker fill.

Apart from high price cycles and really hot days, I pretty much don't care when I fill up. I ain't going to notice the difference unless the engine truly malfunctions.

Here's a paper I found.

http://www.consumer.vic.gov.au/CA256902000FE154/Lookup/CAV_Publications_Fuel_Pricing/$file/of_fuel_tempcomp.pdf

It appears to be reasonably significant. The case example they give on page 18 uses 40 deg out of the tanker and 15 deg in the servo's underground tanks. The temperature change account for a 2.8% loss in volume.
