Rear Ended
Two nights ago I was on this very forum reading Femus' thread about getting rear ended, and I thought to myself, "that's so horrible... I'm lucky it wasn't me!". Bad thoughts.
That night, I was rear ended on the 101 freeway on my way home from work, about half a mile from my house. There was a sudden slow down in traffic, and while I noticed and reacted quickly, the Durango behind me did not. I saw them coming in my rear view mirror, and almost in slow motion, heard their tires screech and sure enough, I was hit. Fortunately, it felt much worse than it turned out to be. I got away with a few scrapes and knicks on my back bumper, and the bottom plastic piece (m-sport), seems to be slightly dislodged. Thankfully, the car drives fine. The woman was friendly, apologetic, and has been very responsive about being sure I have all the information I need to file the claim. "Wait, you don't even have plates yet!", she said. I responded, "yep, only had it for 3 weeks..." She was nearly in tears. I'll be taking it in to the body shop first thing tomorrow to have it appraised. I can't imagine it'll need much more than a bumper repaint, unless something is discovered underneath. I've never been rear ended before, and it seems my neck was more damaged than my car was... here's to hoping it's just residual soreness... It could've been much worse. I just need to keep telling myself that. |

Don't settle for a repaint, they should replace the bumper and possibly the bumper assembly. Most bumpers now a days are designed to kind of pop back once but it won't again. The inside of your bumper is almost surly damaged and should be replaced instead of repainted even if it would look the same.
