Its a blue filter open intake and the only open intake one should get. I think it comes with a heat shield too.

that's mine. Yeah it comes with a heatsheild, i had to extend one of the holes for the heat shield but barely at all, wasn't a big deal. Other then that the install was REALLY easy and IMO it looks and functions way better then the stock massive unnecessarily large airbox.

... also ignore my lazy attempt to secure my HID ballasts haha

Does your engine have a oil heat exchanager near airbox

guys just noticed something:
Does your engine have a oil heat exchanager near airbox?
Just noticed that my 128i does not have one, other 128i are missing one too.

Why? What effect does it have? Is it an upgrade to add one?

Its this part

Hi all,

Just wanted to show some love to the 128i.. i'm new to bmw and this is the first time i've owned one, aside from gran turismo games. I've been lurking on the site just reading everyone's post and oogling the pictures.. recently installed the BMW PE and loved the car even more. It's my daily and its more than enough HP for me coming from a 2005 camry that i put 200k miles on. lol... hope to read more of your posts here...

My car is the AW. The 1st picture is from after work where i found my car next to another 1er.. so i decided to take a pic.. she left a note and i left a note on her car too (i knew it was a her because my co workers saw a girl taking pictures of the cars in the morning)

Welcome Han_

Careful browsing, u might get bitten and empty ur wallet lol.
I started with a set of blackline lci lights and 6 months later .... Lol

I too parked in the summer next to a stock black 135i with a baby seat. So at least I know it can be family saloon

//
I too need to clean my engine bay.

Do you guys think its good to swap for a silver engine cover???
I just can't figure out what I would paint my cover otherwise
The only idea I have is to paint the silver lines on black covers to be blue...

Not something you would notice on the street for sure, but if you start tracking in a serious way that seems like a nice initial factory upgrade. We also have lots of spare room in the engine bay thanks to our lack of turbo plumbing to fit a larger unit if needed.

it maybe built inside the engine now or relocated, since the oil filter housing needs to be different for it to be attached.

That is an oil cooler, I don´t think yours has one, EU spec engines usually have oil coolers due to high speed driving for long periods. I work for an OE and that along with some other cooling changes is done to EU spec cars vs US spec.

thanks! Good to know.

so any oil cooler that fits our cars will offer the same if not better effect

here is a 335i with oilcooler retrofit for anyone who wants to know:

took me a second to figure out what you meant! well i guess if i ever go through with autocrossing my 1er i'll have to look into cooling options. US 128's really got the short end of the stick compared to the rest of the world.

Apparently most of x28i didn't get this.

e90pilot found that n54 oil filter housing will allot access to aftermarket oil coolers for n54 and oem coolers too.

He also states its not needed unless u really track alot

i did right after . Granted, this was about 2 years ago.

I had to move my car in the parking lot to a different spot. I've noticed people say the ticking noise happens after a short drive. I could definitely hear the clatter clatter so I opened my door and noticed how freaking loud it was. My injectors have already been replaced, but it was back in 2010. I bet this ticking noise will never get fixed : (.

Went to the car show during the week and took a look under the hood of the current 128 and notice the heat exchanger. Mine's an 08 doesn't have one. I'm assuming that they are on turbo cars. I recently read a review of the x1 which is the turbo 4 and they talked briefly about the the heat exchanger. They referred to it as an oil water exchanger. It's functionality is to used the coolant to warm up the oil during cold temperatures and to cool it down during hard driving.

Interesting, I want my car to warm up quicker. Its pretty sad to wait 10-20km for the oil level guage to work and make me feel safe about reving beyond 4k rpm.

What did u think of the f20 looks?

Could always get a 1M/M3 cluster and have a progressive redline.

In all seriousness I plan on doing that eventually, though I'm going to swap the stupid white backlighting to factory orange.

No kidding plus we been robbed from a temperature gauge on top of that. I figure I'm not having issue not having one but it would be nice though. I particular want one for the Texas heat during fast driving .
Wasn't a big fan of the f20 looks at first. Thought it just looked wierd with the headlights but its growing on me.
