Wasn't a big fan of the f20 looks at first. Thought it just looked wierd with the headlights but its growing on me.
Still comparatively sucks to drive.

my aFe Pro Dry Euro arrived.
Was quite surprised by its size, quite impressive, i can fit a pop can inside it. I have never held a cone air filter before this

Calculated the filter area to be about 640 cm^2 using r=8.5cm h=12cm
Based on what I can find the NA fitler area is under 600cm^2 to there is at least 7 % more filter area.

I will compare in airbox inlet size later when the Eurobox arrives in a few days time. My inspitaion for this is someones similar comparison of the Euro BMP intake to regular Euro on babymw, will link later.

Side note: I also ordered a e46 325i pro dry version for my father. Early impression is that there is less torque than stock filter. Hope that isnt true

EDIT: Airbox is coming mid week Customs wanted $45 making my total costs:
$70 aFe dry with shipping( amazon had the best price shipped to canada) + 275 eurobox shipped( ~1800 SEK) + 45 customs= 390
Which is okay. Savings of $100+ over ECS
ECS is 409 + shipping & customs( would be minimum $60 for me), then you need to buy a performance filter( $40-70 extra) and think about selling the EURO MAF

Installed eurobox & dry afe. DID NOT CLEAN MAF to feel the differences
Noticed the following:
-I believe my exhaust is quieter, but at the same time a better sound.
-Engine has a different note, seems more aggressive and eager to rev
-RPM climb quicker
-no woosh sounds with lid closed, with lid open the sound reminds me of a small turbo as in "vvvssst" lol
-Slight improvement in consumption at curse control Hwy speeds ~0.5 l/100km hopefully more as it averages out
-Definitely notice more tourque since I had DTC light flash on the same road 1 hour in between trips and just breathes better

Overall, I am pleased with Eurobox and Dry aFe and recommend everyone to cut their charcoal filters out at the very least

tip: install euro box as follows.
- make sure euro box has no maf attached
- insert euro filter, put hand /finqers inside @ MAF opening to check the seal all around
- do not close the lid.
- begin removing USA airbox, wipe air hose at MAF before removal
- remove USA airbox and transfer MAF. fit eurobox, attach one 10 mm bolt for stability.
- attach hose at MAF = This seemed harder on the Euro box because its anti slip groove seems to be a bit different then USA airbox
- you will notice that the box bounces around abit, its okay, it has a different base than USA box
- attach second 10mm, and begin closing the box at the kidney snorkle. Again you will notice increased resistance to slide on the snorkle onto euro lid
- close lid and secure with bolts

I think I should post a thread regarding my modding like a journal with some pics

EDIT:
Euro box vs Stock dimmentions:
Inlet diameter identical, note that plastic around it may be thicker on the Eurobox
Euro surface area of filter gauze = 640cm^2
US filter surface area: TBD (my guesss it is under 600cm^2 and someone said 20% difference so ~= 512 cm^2)

Put a stage 3 intake manifold, exhaust, intake, and tune on it and you'll have your own m3 in a way. lighter, more agile and still plenty quick especially with all those bolt ons. You can add headers to that list too if you really want everything you can squeeze out of it.

yes, without any headers, it will be almost like a e36 m3 which has the m50 manifold added. i think hp is close. With maybe less insurance.

Goodluck USNEM_128i & the1andonly with your decisions

Some of us here have the 128i for the next 3 years at least so we want more fun every day and have added all the things above.
My experience has been, wow the car feels like its breathing better & angrier at every mod. I will go test drive a 128i soon to compare how much has changed

went to the dealership to get wiper blades. Ordered replacement of the shifter linkage @ transmission end (busing, new cup, new clips) for just $22. The floor models had such tight shifters, I had to start changing mine a bit. No ssk plans, just a refresh maybe a akg dtm shift rod/Dssr.

Going to focus on maintenance now in the coming months. if an upgrade makes sense as part of maintenance, will certainly try to afford one

Certain things like TCK suspension you can justify in the sense of maintenance as shocks are a wear item and TCKs are guaranteed for life.

Upgrade and maintenance!

So any 2000+ 330 intake manifold would work then? I finally figured out how to use car parts and am searching around now, managed to find a few good deals.. if only i didn't blow all my money already.

found one about 50 miles down the road for 100 bucks... Its an 01.. gonna wait to confirm that it has DISA and will work properly. Also, do DISA ever wear out or have motors go bad? I'm unsure if i should be concerned about mileage as my 1er only has about 375xx miles.

Does that mean it should work without an issue? for 100 and a day of install(assuming i have all the tools) it would be completely worth while for me to do this. I just want to make sure i'm not getting a manifold that A: won't work or B: will wear out fast. I know nothing about DISA obviously

nooooppe nevermind, 01's have entirely different motors. The search shall continue.

Yes any 2006+ 330i
2003+ 530i
2006+ z4 3.0 si
2008+ x3 3.0
2008+ x5 3.0

Yes DISA does wear out over time, but i think e90 Disa can last 10 years. The only issue they deal with is heat.

2001 Manifold... i dunno i think its wrong part

n52 German tune myths or swallowing the reality of the n52 tunes.

There was a post yesterday on e90post
http://www.e90post.com/forums/showpo...&postcount=133

This is a dyno of a USA 325i, with one stage manifold, and MSV70 dme/ecu ( from 330i, z4 3.0si) running the DS tune from germany.
In germany they gave him a before & after dyno that said 231 hp to the wheels and 301 Nm torque for the car with 93 octane equivalent. Seems like the torque is the only correct number, and it is maybe the highest i've seen for the n52.
His dynojet result suggests he has around 231-235 hp for the engine.

This surprised me since we idealize the German tuners, so I had a second look at MS tuning 125i
http://www.ms-chiptuning.de/bmw/125i-218ps30s2.html
Dyno plot: http://i764.photobucket.com/albums/x...g_diagramm.jpg

From the dyno plot, notice that HP is quoted in PS, the metric HP. Nm is used for Torque. So these @ engine approximations when converted to our HP and Ft-Lb really mean 266.3 hp and 231.2 ft - Lb torque @ engine
With a 15% loss is 226.35 hp & 196.52 ft-lb at the wheels (who knows in what correction factor eg. SAE or STD)

I know we shouldn't compare dyno's, but I think this is important to question, pay attention to what units used, what gas octane and where the measure is at.
I dont think our expectations should change, and we should still see tuned 125i/128i with 270hp, but from which tuning house?

I really should hurry with this evolve tune configuration stuff, especially with the eurobox opening any bottlenecks
So I ask for help:
Does anyone know how to use BavAuto for live readings??? There are just so many options

330i rotors

Since we are about to confirm that 330i rotors work for 128i/125i
I found these

Performance Friction Direct Drive Two Piece Floating brake rotors BMW E90/E91 330i Front

Part# 328.073.87/88
Replacement Disk #328.24.0057.87/88
Pad # 1061

Prices so far look to be $900+

Uses a 2004+ hat, the euro e90 start year I think
The Direct Drive system from Performance Friction is a 2 piece floating disc assembly designed as a replacement for high performance vehicles used on road or track. The use of a 2 piece disc allows for radial and axial expansion of the disc without being constrained my the hub. This helps eliminate disc warping and judder under heavy braking resulting in more consistent braking with better brake control.

The kit replaces the original discs and retains the standard caliper.

EDIT:
apperently the e89 z4 35 sdrive in USA and 3.0 in Europe use the e9x 330i Caliper, also found on the x1
But whats nice is that they use a 330mm x 24mm sized non Sloptted Rotor that is BMP style: Aluminum hub rivetred to Rotor disc!!!

Part 34116782601 or 34116794427 not sure why there are 2 of these part numbers for the same kit: http://realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do?...l=17&lang=enUS

Nice work on the brakes front. Performance friction definitely has a good reputation from my E36 M3 days, and I have no doubt they are making a good thing here as well.

Curious what the weight difference between the stockers, PF, and Z4 offerings are. If there is a decent reduction, between this, 17" BBS RGRs, and proper summers instead of run flats we are talking about a serious loss of unsprung weight. Anyone have a weight on the 128i M-Sport boat anchor wheels?

This also might prove to be a good fix for the brake heat limp mode that the 128i(at least we don't have the terrible 135i "BBK") runs into on the track.

*Edit*

Looked them up on http://felgenkatalog.auto-treff.com/ It looks like they weigh 22.3lbs and 22.4lbs for the stock front and rears respectively. Stock run flats apparently weigh 26lbs.

Given that 17x8 RGRs weigh 17.24lbs and 235/45/17 Super Sports weigh 21lbs, we are talking about a 10.1lbs reduction in unsprung weight per corner before brakes. That is an absurd performance boost.
