You should feel lucky you're only paying that much. If you're a Virginia resident and get caught doing 20 over in VA, you not only pay the ticket, but a $1900 civil penalty tax that the judge cannot rescind. Plus you'll continue to pay a penalty tax of about $300 per year for three years. And yes, this cruel-unusual-unconstitutional law is being fought in court as we speak.

Thankfully, that's already been shot down and ruled unconstitutional. As a former resident of the Communistwealth of Virginia (Richmond) I can understand how they would be looking for any means to fund the state's coffers more but that was so farsical, you knew it was a matter of time before someone took them behind the woodshed on it.
See link below. V1/9500 just one tool available. No substitute for common sense, alert driver, etc. Mo' better LIDAR jammers coming online as well. Ka Instant On still absolutely deadly in the hands of a cop that understands proper use and how to correctly set a speed trap (as much as laser, if not more so due to jamming potential and limitations of the laser gun). Do your homework kids! |

Virginia is absolutely ruthless when it comes to tickets. I got a speeding ticket for 12 over (clocked, and written down as), took it to court and they wouldn't even reduce it(with a lawyer). Then about a month ago i totaled my civic on one of the interstates due to poor road maintenance (giant ass puddle more than an inch deep in the middle of the far left lane in light rain). I hydroplaned, hit the left barrier which popped my front left tire, then hit skidded across 4 lanes to hit the other barrier. Speed limit 55, going 55 mph. The cop pulls up 45 minutes later and precedes to write me a ticket for reckless driving without even bothering to ask what happened. Now i get to go back to court for a criminal charge of reckless driving, for which they could give me a year in jail and a $2500 fine. I'll get the charge dropped, but the fact that now i get to pay a lawyer $500 and drive 7 hours to go to court on a Tuesday on top of dealing with a totaled car is just ridiculous. Alas, i'll get a 135 out of this yet though, i think with some extra weight and traction control this wouldn't have happened because the suv i was following behind went through the same puddle with no problem.

I think I am going to get into trouble fast when I go back to the states....Here in the great land of the autobahn I got to 100mph w/o even pushing it or trying to go that fast.. I was just casually passing trucks and slow cars then I looked down and I was like wow I wonder what would happen if I actually pushed the car

I have already set up a seperate bank account for my speeding tickets. I'm being smart and planning ahead for the inevitable future. And I've already got practice in court, so I'm all set. Bring it on law enforcement (if you can catch me)

Different kind of trouble. I was blazing through a 270 degree on ramp last weekend when the 135i hit a sharp dip during the turn. Dip was big enough to cause traction control stayed on the next 3-4s. ;-)

Cruse Control is your friend. Use it when you safely can and use a good Radar Detector.
