head up display- HUD

Is it easy or even possible to add head up display (HUD) to a 2009 135?
Something that looks good or looks factory installed.
If one available, can it electronically tie to speed signal form the vehicle electronics, or computer system?

thanks

Don't think there is no room to add HUD on the dashboard.

IMO, it's doable. There's a lot of room on top of the dash for a HUD. You can try it with something simple like your phone along with any number of HUD apps to see how you like it.

Disagreed if that can be done E90 should have HUD way back in 06.

You don't necessarily need the massive OEM HUD just to run a "heads up display". There are many options out there that are both small and inexpensive, hence my comment about the iphone. For instance, here's Torque running in HUD mode. All you need is the OBD2 bluetooth adapter mated with an Android phone.

Thanks for the link on the Ebay stuff.

I have seen and considered the OBDII type HUDs, but this is what concerns me.

from the description on the ebay site:
"(90% cars can be match with this item if setting 1 can’t be power-off automatically)

2.3.Above steps still can’t shut down, please contact us.

3.Other Problems and issues on the S300:
3-1Because some top(high class) cars (BMW or Lexus…)have electronic equipments such as keyless which likely to interfere with the S300 and you maybe encounter situations such as :
→Keyless device may cause the machine not to respond, and it maybe have opportunities for bright but turn off the machine and it still will be bright →(M3 car type)→returning policy."

It's definitely a hit or miss mod. The best thing to do would be to see if anyone else with a comparable model has tried out any of the units to see if they've had success or not.

Best solution is trade in your 135i and get the new F30 335i problem solved.

Yes, excellent suggestion. I agree that trading in the car rather than modding it to get the desired results is both simple and fiscally prudent.

Well done, can't wait for more ideas.

My plan is to make one myself, using an Arduino microcontroller and some red 7-segment displays.

It will provide me with speed, oil pressure and water temp.

See you in about 6 months!

Watched the video - too much info too small, too high (from the looks of it).
I have a tablet setup (non-HUD) and have just a few gauges on there - need oil pressure (not available for the 1-series thru Torque?)

How is it in the daylight?

Daylight can be pretty poor depending on the ambient light and the angle. You may want to look into specific types of tint for the windshield that help keep the HUD visible in daylight. I'm not sure what kind it is, but from what I've read it's a pretty important part of the equation.

More details on this! I'd love for some technical info too. How you're setting up ODB communication, display, install, etc. if you have time.

Good luck with the mod. BTW those features you mentioned are available on performance steering wheel already.
