How to know? Cobb for 2012

Hi guys. I've read a couple thread on this AMAZING forum, and I read that the cobb accessport don't fit on bmw 2012. But some 2012 were made in 2011 or something like that and could fit.. How to know? I've write to cobb support to know..

Another question, I see different model, cobb av2, cobb av3, cobb accessport, does all do the same? Or there is some difference?

v3 is the same maps as v2 but is faster to flash and can be used as in-car gauge. Also has a bigger, prettier screen and better build quality.

Email Cobb. They will get back to you. Eventually. Only way to be sure.

You will need to contact Cobb with your VIN in order to determine if the AP is available for your car.

The handheld flasher is known as the Accessport(AP for short) and is available in 2 different models. Version 2 and Version 3. As far as actual tunes are concerned they are exactly the same. The V3 is just a much newer and more well designed package with enhanced display capabilities.

So if it's fit, all model can be used.

Anyone know why 2012 bmw can't have the cobb? It's the same motor n55 as 2011..

It's all to do with whether or not the software from Cobb is compatible with the software in YOUR CAR.

Every now and then BMW update the software (DME) in the cars at the factory. If your car has the newer software it may not be compatible with the Cobb software.

It basically comes down to different encryption.

You have to give them YOUR VIN to be sure. They can tell you yes or no - specifically for YOUR CAR.

If they say YES then you can use either the v2 or the v3. The tune and power gains will be the same. The advantages of the v3 are listed here: http://www.cobbtuning.com/Accessport-s/70458.htm

Okok. But does the dealer make some upgrade of the software in the car?

This is why im choosing cobb instead of jb4... Because I can put back stock map, without any notice from the dealer for the guaranty.

It has to do with DME encryption. As far as I know BMW does not have the ability to update the DME to the newer encryption at the dealer. If it works at first it should always work.

If your car is currently compatible with Cobb and sometime in the future you take it to BMW and they update the software and then you try to re-install the Cobb afterwards and it fails (Unrecognised ROM) then all you have to do is send Cobb a copy of your new DME and they will send you new maps that do work.

They are pretty good with that.. I've heard of it happening before and they normally get it sorted in a day or two.

Yeah. I've never heard of the DME encryption changing on an existing car...

PS: OP, listen to Allen. If anyone knows what they're talking about when it comes to Cobb then it's the PTF guys.

Oh, and I've had an N55 JB4 - on my last car - and I do not recommend them.

Great! I've already sent a message to cobb support, waiting for the answer! Hope I can put a cobb on. Just installed my intake and waiting for my autowerk exhaust. And there is one still for sale here, I would like to get it!

I suppose next time someone organizes something that everyone gets to. I'll hold you to it. Though I don't know whether I can compare your COBB'd 1M to my 135...
