Is he joking me or his 1 is really a special edition?
Hello, as the title says i have a friend who just bought a used 128i and i find his car exactly like mine, but he said his is a special edition with a 270hp engine and that basically mine is just not as good as his !
I found his car identical to mine minor two differences, in the rear he has the black plastic diffuser and his interior is a cheap orangy upholstery (not leather) Is this really a special edition ? Does any one have any info about this ? God bless |

No special edition 128i's. No 270 HP motor in the US. No "orangy upholstery" from the factory.

unless he did a 330i DISA manifold swap, he's bullshitting you entirely. With the manifold swap and a tune he'd be at 260-270hp. There we're/are not any special editions 128's anyway.

His must be special cause it doesn't exist.
There is the lifestyle limited edition 128, but it would have dark brown leather interior, white grilles, would say limited edition on the door sill, and special style 496 wheels. No mechanical upgrades though. Doesn't sound remotely close to that. Here's a 128 like that: http://www.bmwconcord.com/AF2/gallery/WBAUP9C58DVS95489 There's no cloth interior offered in the US. just fake leather and leather. |

Well, if your friend indeed has that interior, I wouldn't say he has "nothing special." He somehow has a Euro model. It can't be a 128i, however, as 128i's are specific to the North American market.

Yikes.
Cloth would be nice, but not in that color combination.

Not special edition. The interior I believe is an option outside the US but I was pretty sure that cloth was not an option here. Looks pretty ugly. As far as the diffuser goes, I'm sure thats just something aftermarket.
There have been no special edition 128's per my knowledge.

It might not be a manufacturer special edition but some dealerships around the US occasionally make their own special models. My car was a special edition created by the dealer, they did some paint and 12K in performance mods and sold it that way. They are still turning out special cars every year, this year they are doing a lot of flat painted cars with wheels and a few other things.

As for the orange have you not been to car shows, some of these guys love some off colors for their interiors. I got a friend that probably would have loved this in his multi colored RX7, painters do some of the weirdest stuff to their cars.

You could always do a pull against his car, provided you have the same trans.
