The best thing you can try for good in-car audio is isolate the environment from any aural intrusion. Probably why the Lexus/Mark Levinson combo is considered the ne plus ultra of current factory audio offerings.

BTW, this is harman hardware w/ mark levinson EQ. Levinson doesn't make car speakers.

Any without getting into a religous argument, most home installs I've seen sound about 1/2 as good as they could due to 1) speaker placement (usually limited by the room/architecture) 2) bad eq

I'll agree execution is everything - I'm eager to hear my new stereo in the 1er...

My b&w/denon system sounds night/day comparing post to pre eq.

I wish I heard the standard fare to compare, but the premium hifi was totally worth it to me. I just got back from another 90 minute excursion to nowhere, for no reason, and I have to say that the sound system is pretty darned good.

Btw, I drove in pretty rural areas, and still had some "what is that? i want that car." comments while out.

I will have to do something, I am not happy with the base system. I want to keep a stock look though, so I won't replace the head unit and I want the speakers to be incognito. Does the Premium change the speakers at all or just add subwoofers and can the base be brought up to premium after it is built?

From what I've heard and read it uses different speakers and adds two subs under the seats.

You tell us. Didn't you take delivery of your car? Please look under the seats and see if there is a speaker grill on the floor. :iono:

It is my understanding that the base system comes with 10 speakers too, it just that they are not powered as much. Which is excellent, because without the logic7, you can simply swap the BMW amp with a more refined and higher wattage one. (in the Logic7 you cannot).

This is what I am hoping fore. To keep the Stock HU and replace all the speakers and the AMP with an efficient and high quality amplifier. A head unit is a head unit, as long as it plays CD's I will not have to worry about DSP.

FWIW the Canadian Brochure says "Logic7 Sound System, 13 speakers". Standard is 10. So that means 2 woofers and one something else?

in the 3 you get two rear speakers in the back shelf and a center speaker in dash. Perhaps it is the same in the 1?

don't know they would put the center if you got i-drive thoug... behind the screen?

to answer my own question, looks like the subs are 8.5 inches after looking at that site.

The standard Audio and the Premium have the same amount of speakers in the same location. The only difference is that on the Premium you have better quality speakers and slightly more wattage to each of them.

Additionally, you also get the Logic7 Head Unit with the premium system.

For $800 bucks less, I would rather get the Standard system and just replace the stock amp with one that has slightly more wattage. Then put in some nice aftermarket speakers. Amp should be under $500 bucks and speakers could be another $1000. Thats only $700 bucks more than the Premium HiFi, but your way ahead of the game.

there are custom 10" and 12" boxes that you can get that make the subs look like they were factory

The premium hi-fi has:

4-1.5" metal cone/dome tweeters, probably titanium.
4-4" metal cone mid/bass speakers, probably aluminum.
2-8" metal cone subs, probably aluminum.

A Harmon Kardon 300 watt DSP(digital signal processing)amp.

Adding any subs/amps in the trunk adds weight. A REAL SUB IS HEAVY. A REAL AMP IS HEAVY, A REAL BOX=MDF IS HEAVY. I have been building TOP QUALITY speakers for 10 years. I KNOW.

i heard the premium hi-fi in a 130i hatch and was blown away. its better than the system in my friend's S430 which also recreates various acoustic environments. so it was really impressive. i am not sure how much more hefty it is compared to the standard version but i am sold. i'll just have to eat less and work out more to make up for the difference.
