Standing on the ledge & ready to leap
There are a few things most notably that I actually miss about the grand old E90. I miss the soft caress of the leather clad sports seats, the whiff of the rustic aroma that greeted my nose as I eased myself into the saddle. I miss the bass thumping 13 speakers of digitally tuned audio madness that could be summoned during long interstate transfers, the ability to peak around corners in the dark with dynamically adjustable head lights. I miss the LED glow of pathway lighting when she was unlocked. All of these creature comforts are currently roaming around the Virginia Beach area under the care of a smartly dressed man with a slight British accent. At his last check in the old gal has surpassed 112,000 miles with only a VANOS replacement and one wheel bearing, required. How many people sell a used car and then get friendly updates from the purchaser?
My nostalgia for the good old days is offset by one feature of the bargain basement BMW. Well, two actually I kind of like the new CIC based navigation system. The current ride is equipped with a manual transmission. This fact combined with how much I did not pay for the car keeps me in it. But, there comes a point when you start to add up all of the little things you want done and suddenly the idea of a brand new car seems logical. Especially since there are no 128s equipped with all of the features I want unless. I’m willing to ditch the clutch in favor of the automatic. This is NOT negotiable! So, in situations like this a case is made for a forty one thousand dollar 135is. Never mind the fact that I could have purchased two, count em, that’s two bargain basement BMWs for the cost of this screaming 135is. This logic turned into a discussion with my wife who stands by me patiently, as I scour the internet for sport springs, leather seats, xenon head lamps, audio equipment, wheels, tires, and all other manner of other such “deals” as can be acquired from other motor heads doing exactly the same thing I am doing. And if you’re reading this you can identify with what I am writing about. And now you’re asking yourself has he done it? Has smellthebeans leapt to the dark side of Vishnu tunes, oversized intercoolers, cracking caliper pistons (sad), fuel pump blow outs, and pin your ass to the seat acceleration rushing in at only 2900 RPM like a pack of football hooligans into a pub after a Chelsea match. Well, ……. The answer is …….. no. I will remain the loan au'natual renegade of this fourm. I am leaving work at this time and picking up my “mud flaps” from Neiderlaussung and stopping by Gladen Audio to replace the crappy rear speakers. The H&Rs remain nestled in the garage awaiting arrival of the Bilsteins and Mr. Hotchkiss. And the as winter snows melt away giving room for my tulips to pop out of the ground the Run on Flat all season tires will be usurped by four square Michelin Pilot Sports astride BBS CHs. I hope everyone has a wonderful Thanksgiving especially my brothers down range. God Bless B

I've been thinking about "upgrading" to a 335i sedan. If I get serious about it I'll let you know before I trade Nina in...

F30. I really could use more room, the 135 is my only car.
I think I would be able to port over my JB4 and DP, and possibly the intake and charge pipe. But again, it's just window shopping at this point...

I could see Mr.Kleen in AW F10 5er with dark tinted windows. Actually I've been thinking of a new 5er as well. But every time I drive my tuned 135i, it just puts a BIG ol' smile on my face.

F30 for the win....when I drove it....it seemed WAY bigger than my E90. I did not love the layout of the dashboard, that would take a little getting used to.
What about the wagon? that got some great reviews.

I'd love a 335i wagon with a manual transmission and a tan interior.
The 5er is nice but just waaaayyy to big for me.

Over the course of this deployment I have contemplated so much as to what I will do with my 135i when I get back. I have gone from being dead set on wanting an M3 to deciding to just do small mods to my 1er back to wanting an M3 really bad then to doing a lot of mods.... At this point I think ive finally settled on doing a some mild modding (procede, DP, wheels and tires and a couple other things) and then waiting to see what the 2014-2015 car market looks like. DEC 2015 is when my warranty is up if I dont hit the mileage before then, so I think 2014-2015 will be when I really start getting serious about a next car. |

Ditto on the Mustang.
Speaking of modding. I finally picked up the speaker system from Gladen Audio. Unfortunately they are not drop in compatible as advertised. I was only going to replace the rear speakers but, decided since I had one VAT form and the 8" subs were only an additional hundred euro to go ahead and get both. These new speakers are not quite on the market yet & the salesman wanted me to come back and talk to the "Chief". So we will see on Monday. Eventually I am going to replace the Alpine amplifier with a Mosconi 6 to 8 DSP system and a traditional A-B amplifier because the fellas state the sound is "Warmer" than class D. They only recommend the class Ds for subs. I was a little ticked off when they clearly would not drop in. Of course I wanted to test out my new toys. Oh and I locked myself out of the car this morning. Thank God for ADAC. Hope everyone has enough to eat & FOCAD stay safe!

I dig the Mustang Boss 302 and I'm a fan of the Focus RS.

Sometimes when there is a lot snow and ice in my location and I drive (my sisters) X3 I think what the hell am I doing in E82 and I keep looking for X3.0sd which is really powerful and nice car.
But then again when spring is coming and out temp goes to 25C opening my sunroof, windows. Kicking to the floor enjoying RWD tq/hp... Then I think... I think f*ck all those wagons and 4x4 replicas. Even when there was a chance to trade 135i for CaymanS I just couldn't do that because of lack of power because Cayman also don't have LSD because it still not a 911 and because it was to stable to simple to drive Though I think real passion stands behind ///M Power |

update
UPDATE:
I am still milling around about a "minor upgrade" Pretty much I miss the leather sport seats, xenon lights, and logic seven of the original E90. Current ride is a plain jane model year 2010 with navigation & about 18,000 miles. The inservice date is April 2010. I have added: Bluetooth BMW Alpine audio upgrade Coding to replace tire pressure sensors & traffic updates. http://www.bavarianmotorcars.com/bmw...?ident=VF06849 I am considering '09 128i Space Gray with Savannah beige Leather and only about 12,400 miles. The in service date is some time after Feb of 2010 Navigation Premium Package Comfort Access Top Hifi Cold Weather package Sports Package Xenon Adaptive Headlights. Comments or thoughts?

What about the suspension mods? Are we still doing that? Also, where's the "coffe adapter package"? (JK!)

If I wasnt deployed id go check it out for you. That is where I bought my 135i. They were really friendly. Enjoyed the sales experience better than I expected I would after dealing some other dealerships.
Looks like youd be getting everything you want while cutting your mileage almost in half. Is it the same money as you are paying now? If it is or even if its slightly more id say its a good deal. |

The difference in retail value according to NADA is about 2 grand.
Oddly enough because of the inservice date of the '09 the US warranty is longer by 5 months vs. my '10 model year. It's build date is october 2008 meaning it languished on the BMC lot until August 2010 (over a year). Heavily optioned with odd interior color, & manual transmission certainly contribituted to that. I am going to put mine up for sale asking $24,500 (NADA is $25,400). See if it generates any interest and go from there.
