Being in the insurance industry, I thought you all should know that the vehicle in question plays a very small part in the premium you pay for your auto insurance.

The vehicle does not cause claims, the driver/owner is responsible for losses. The premium relative to the vehicle is a reflection of the total value, damagibility, and cost of repairs. This affects the comprehensive and collision premiums only. As you may have seen, the liability portion of the premium is the single largest component.

Further, premiums vary greatly within a state by zip code identified territories, thereby anyone comparing rates across the country, or in various parts of the world is a misguided exercise.

Finally, the variables that most specifically affect the premium are age of the driver(s)/owner, where you live, how you use the vehicle, driving record, claim history, and the coverages chosen. As I said, the specific vehicle, although it is considered, and has an impact, is just one consideration, and a small one in light of these others.

Sorry to throw cold water on the discussion, but I thought it was important for everyone to understand the realities.

Hey Teeman, Can you please what the different parameters need to be in order to get the best rate. For example, average of XXXX miles / month, for use to go to work, age, etc ? So we have a better understanding of the how auto insurance works

It's pretty simple, and logical really.

The more you drive the higher the rate. To and from work less miles pays a lower premium than more miles.

Fewer claims, or no claims pays less.

Clean records, or one violation pays less.

Older age is equated with maturity and responsibility? Generally true
and thereby pays less.

Rural area residents pay lower rates than urban area residents.

Each company's rating plan is different, and each state is different, but the above are fairly universal truths.

Can anybody refer me to a cheap or cheapest insurance? The lowest I've got is 2000 a year for me. In Central NY, I got 680 per 6 months.

I remember not too long ago, I was quoted almost $2000/6 months for full coverage on a 1997 Acura Integra in Brooklyn, NY (probably the highest rates in the country).

Shhh, don't tell, but we are rating me on the 325, wife is moving into my truck. The truck goes from 480 to about 1000/6 months. Same except female and not A+ any longer.
Whatever you do, be sure you get under/uninsured motorist coverage! It's minimal in price, but if you get smacked by an uninsured motorist and your car is trashed, you still have the payments!!! And possibly no car!!! And if they didn't have insurance, they probably have no assets for you to seize in court!!!

Hey guys. If you have Liberty Mutual as your insurance carrier you can get 10% off your premiums by calling and asking them to apply the "BMW Performance" discount. At least for me it wasn't automatic and I had to ask.

I pay $410 for 6 months for my existing Honda and with an addition of 2006 325i my agent said it would be $638/6months for both cars.

Is this good price?

P.S - I have a $500 deductble and I am 28 male.
