Removing spray paint from exhaust tips

It seems the previous owner spray painted the exhaust tips on the factory exhaust to flat black. No idea why they would have done that, but I would like to remove it if there is a way to do it without ruining the factory finish underneath.

Is there any way to do this?

Garage List
Are tips removable on these cars? If so might just be easier to replace them.

Well I plan on getting a different exhaust system at some point, but I would like to not have spray painted exhaust in the mean time.

Is the factory "black chrome" finish just anodized aluminum?

Honestly just use stripper on them, then repaint with a high gloss enamel high-temp engine paint.

Try the stripper in an inconspicuous spot and see if it even takes the finish off once you get through the paint. I bet it wont.

Rubbing alcohol or goo gone seems to work well without hurting the finish underneath

The tips indeed just slip on so you can remove them to work on them. Be careful as the black finish is just paint. I think anything that will remove the flat black will most likely damage the gloss black underneath. You will most likely need to repaint them or replace them.

My tips are flat black too... I'd like to polish them cause the black looks absolutely terrible
