ugh my fuel pump went out!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i was just accelerating and the car jerked then lost power and the CEL came on. I had to drive another mile to find a safe spot to park.
seeing my baby being loaded onto that flatbed tow truck was heartbraking!!!
the weird thing is i couldve sworn my car was losing power lately, and its really not just me getting used to the power. right after the break in period i raced my buddie 335i coupe and i pulled him every time, but then we raced again last week and he beat me by a hood length. could this have something to do with it?

At least you'll have the new fuel pump. Absence makes the heart grow fonder. Soon, all will be good.

You bet. My car was getting slower as my pump was going out. My mpg was taking a crap too. Make sure you get pump 881!

Welcome to the bad hpfp club. The great thing is that the car feels amazingly fast with the new pump. I was surprised.

There are three different model numbers. The old model which is the one we all had (bad pump). The remanufactured one (which is garbage) and the new good pump, model number ends in 881. Make sure thats what you get. People have gotten the remanufactured one only to have it die a few months later.

Is it just me or did a bunch of our pumps all die on the same week?

i figured BMW had all the updated HDP's in the cars by now.

i haven't replaced many HDP's lately. but recently i had to replace the intake camshaft bearing ledge and hook ring seals. they cut grooves into the ledge that causes a drop in oil supply for the VANOS unit. there is a bulletin on it if the car comes in with various intake/exhaust camshaft faults

so it may not necessarily be the HDP. when you shut off the car and restart it, does it run ok? a good sign for a faulty HDP is if the cranking takes longer than normal

i would assume they do. the bulletin targets production dates for the E9x from 6/1/2006 to 1/25/2007. they don't mention the E82/88

WTF? You should ask them what model number hpfp they have in stock. You might get a remanufactured one, watch out!

Mine did the same. They have to give it gas. Once you gas it the car will go into limp mode and drive with no boost.

Have there been significant failures with the updated pumps?
