Winter tires and Tire Pressure Sensor Not Complaining???

So, i just put my winter tires and wheels on my car.
To my surprise, the tirepressure sensor didnt complain, and to my knowledge it was supposed to and I had to reset it.

has anyone had the same experience?

Any ideas why the sensor didnt complain?

hmmm interesting. You changed the tires yourself? I agree, when I do mine in a week or two, I can also chime in.

FYI don't forget to torque them.
I was told it's important with alloy rims.

Yup changed them myself. Not a big deal, takes about 30 minutes..

I think the Canadian Tire Pressure sensor will only complain if the tires have differetn pressure relatively amongst each other.

So if you put on new tires, even through they are different from the stock, as long as they all have the same pressure, the system wont complain. This is why the US system is better, i think. It makes sure that your pressure is Correct!

Changed my tires to Blizzak LM25's. Had someone do it but I doubt they reset the system (small town shop). Sensor has not complained though I expected it to. No idea why not.

If there are no rotational differences between your summer and winter sets it probably won't complain. But, it's probably a good idea to do a reset anyway.

Anyway, has Gill been wrong yet? Plus it's cheaper for us in in Canada.

To test, I guess you could let some air out of a tire and see what happens. Maybe do it when you are very near an air machine that works (many gas stations have air, but they don't work, or they want our loonies...not that they are worth much right now)

I got my set of winter rims/tires on a couple of days ago. Place I dealt with gave me dedicated winters, Michelin Xi2 205/50/17. No tire pressure warnings thus far and its been 4 days. Only problem I have is when I turn alittle harder than I should be for winters tires or get on the gas alittle, the traction control light appears every so often or even hitting a bump.

Could it be because we don't have the same TPM like the US. Works differently from what I remember.

That's EXACTLY the reason. We have FTM (Flat Tire Monitor) Totally different. There is NO sensor in our actual wheels. So as long as you have air in your tires, no sensor will go off. The higher end BMW's like the 5 or 7 Series do have TPMS. The best way to tell is, if your stock wheels have metal valve stems then they have the sensor. Black rubber stems like what you will find on your 128 and/or 135 are NOT sensors. There is "no complaining" because you don't have TPMS sensors.

My moms 550i has metal valve stems which is why I had to order her sensors for her Winter tire set-up from Tirerack.

Thanks for the confirmation...I was pretty sure that it was because our system wasn't the same. I actually prefer having the FTM instead of the TPMS, one less hassle. Don't get me wrong, I love tech if it really makes things better but, stuff like RFT and TPMS are just a pain in the a$$ - especially since a spare works just as well, if not better and FTM is more than enough notification.
