1 series is "fake" when wet or raining...

So, here's the deal, bouth my father and a friend of mine, who has a e92, said that the 1 series and the 3 series are a bit on the fake side when it's wet and that I should be very careful. Could any of you guys give me your opinion?

Thanks!

Fake??? Like, when it rains the 1 series suddenly becomes a Matchbox car?

Its a RWD car with 300lb/ft of torque with low profile summer tires on it, yes you should be a little more careful when its wet outside. But that would be the same for all higher HP/Torque cars.

I know but the e92 being a 20d, it's got even more torque then the 35i. But they said that when taking fast corners, the car seems fake... Also he said that it happens more because the rear wheels lose their alignment very easily.

Well firstly, the 2 litre diesel doesn't have more torque than the the 35i engine, and in the heavier 3 series chassis you definitely have a car that isn't as "lively" as the 135i. Combine the power-to-weight ratio with the OEM runflats and you do have to pay attention in wet conditions. But that said, there's nothing wrong with the 1ers wet road manners for a rear-driver. At sane speeds and with traction and stability control on you have nothing to worry about.

Handles fine in the rain. If someone is going to be stupid and push it too far in the wet, well they're just being stupid and no amount of engineering can fix that.

My opinion is that you personally do not own a BMW.

Your opinion is absolutely right. I never said i did, but my father is trying to put me off having an e82 claiming that it's very unsafe in wet weather.

the car handles fine in the rain, as long as (same as mentioned above) you dont push the car and expect it to handle the same way in the wet that it does in the dry

that being said, this car also handles REALLY freakin well in snow (assuming of course your car is wearing the proper shoes). im running on blizzaks and have had very minor issues with getting stuck in snow. only time i had any problems was with ice, or deep slush

Dude, it's all about the rubber. Equipped properly, the 1 is great in any condition.

The car drives just fine in the rain, like anything else in life you just have to be careful. If it's daddys money then follow his advice, if it's your money then grow a pair and do what you'd like with it.

Your father/friend fester a funny, fake, false, and foolish fiction. It's all about the tires.

I don't need to grow a pair to drive a e82 in the rain try driving a L200 in heavy rain with BF tires, driving fast as hell and then give me a call

So then, the owners have talked and the car isn't stupidly unsafe, great! Hope to join the 1 comunity soon
