Ignition positions were eliminated with push button start. The rest function is now buried in the Idrive menu post 2012 MY.

The screen capture shows rectangular buttons from E46 and prior generations.

It won't work on your car then. Only if your car has the REST button will this feature work.

It might be possible to have your car coded to have this feature though. ?

Bummer

Oh well we don't see much cold weather(1 or 2 months tops) down here, I would expect southern cars to have max a/c and northern ones to have the REST feature.

The REST button was only on 2008 & 2009 model cars. In 2010(I think?) bmw went to the MAX button instead of the REST button.

I use this feature all of the time and it is great. If you are going to pop into the kwik-e mart and pick up some things or do a quick grocery run you can safely turn the engine off, hit the rest button and leave the car. When you come back the inside of the car is warm! And it is safe to leave it running too because the car will shut it off when the heat is lost and before the battery is drained. Also great when you are waiting at the train station to pick someone up and its freezing outside...no need to run the engine anymore to stay warm!

It has two "modes" as I like to think of them:

1. Engine off, accessory power on -> you can adjust the fan speed and direction in this mode, great for when you are parked in the car waiting for someone on a cold day because you can control how much heat you get and still listen to the radio

2. Engine off, all accessory power off -> in this mode you can't control the fan speed because the car is completely off but BMW wisely set it so when the REST button is pushed it blows MAXIMUM fan speed with all vents enabled (if memory serves me correcty). Perfect for leaving the car and coming back to a nice toasty interior

Honestly think more cars should have this mode.

The "ALL" button copies the driver's side temp setting to the passenger side, nothing more.

The REST feature was deleted for model years 2010 forward.

According to my dealership rep, owner surveys showed it was little used. BMW dropped it to keep the price for the 1's down (it had a high build cost).

The REST button was replaced by the ALL button as folks complained it was too much trouble to set both temperatures individually. All years have the MAX button.

I have comfort access so I just leave the car running and lock the doors as long as it's in sight.

so, I recently found out that my remote has a feature that allows you to roll down the windows/sunroof...hold down the unlock button for about 5 seconds and your windows will begin to roll down. The windows will stop rolling down when you release. Not sure of EVERYONE has the feature. My vehicle is an 08' with the weather package...

Did you buy it used? That is a coding option that can be done on US cars that don't come with it. I believe euro cars come with it but i could be wrong. My car has that feature now thanks to coding.

I have this feature on my '08. It also slides open the sunroof after the windows have rolled down all the way.

With comfort access you can also hold your hand or thumb on the door handle and the windows and sunroof will begin to close as long as you continue to keep your hand pressed down. Very handy if you've shut off the car, exited and shut the door only to find you left a window down or a sunroof open.

I bet most people don't know this.....

The MAX feature doesn't work when the outside temp is <33 degrees.

Wish list:

When I adjust the temp dial, I'd like to be able to pull on it and automatically sync the passenger temp. Then you could have MAX, REST and ALL.

Finally: You can code your car so that when you lock and hold the remote, the windows go up, the roof closes, and the mirrors fold. I have this and LOVE LOVE it. The best unintended consequence, is that you can be far from the car and if the mirrors are folded, you know the car is locked.
