yes, i thought the lack of sunroof was unusual as well. especially in sunny south africa! i must say that the car looks far better in the "flesh" than the pics could ever capture.

I like the clear turn signals as well as no sun roof. Maybe we can get some clears shipped to us.

After looking at all these SWEEET AW pics(including yours) I've decided that this car looks the best in AW and Le Mans Blue and it needs a sunroof to balance things out for me. Thanks for the pics!!

The coupes i've seen here in Cape Town had sunroof's... unfortunately they were all in Sedona Red (not that it's a bad colour)

I'd like to see one in Le Mans Blue in person though.

Thanks for the pics though.

I managed to see a Sedona Red 135i and a Metallic Black 120d standing side by side this weekend, and I have to say I far preferred the Sedona. The car looked very plain in Black, whereas the Sedona made the lines of the car pop and I happen to love the lines of this car. I guess if you did not like the lines and wanted to tone these down then Black would be ideal, but to me it looked like just another BMW. I know I will probably be tried and convicted for heresy on this forum, but that is my view , so contrary to what some have suggested, I believe the lighter (or more colourful) colours are going to look better on this car IMHO.

Everyone will think I'm nuts, but the car IMHO looks better with amber turns.

Nice pics. Those 261 alloys look great. Sunroof is optional in Oz as well :-) Noticed that Xenons are not standard in SA. They are meant to be std over here.

It looks like all RHD market comes with those wheels. I prefer the 5 spoke ones as it has more of a concave profile. I wonder if it's an option. Maybe those in the UK could answer this.

Yeah, xenons are not standard in SA and neither is the sunroof.

it's about 10 centimetres longer than the 1 series hatchback... all other dimensions are about the same.

This should put it in perspective... side-by-side it actually looks a bit beefier than the old 3-series.

I happen to agree with your assessment that the 1-Series (or any car, for that matter) simply looks superior in a color: blue, green, red.

Silver is completely ubiquitous, and non-metallic whites and blacks are only mildly acceptable the moment after they're impeccably cleaned, polished, and sitting in the shade. Otherwise......incredibly bland.

To each his own.

I mostly agree. But I had to decide without seeing Sedona red and too many people who saw it at auto shows reported that they hated it, so it was a risk I didn't want to take. Another thing was, I found I really liked the coral red interior after seeing red leather on an M3. Finally, in this climate, the car is going to look crummy on the outside six months of the year no matter what color I pick, so I figured, why not have my favorite interior instead and choose the paint that goes best with that? Then, of course I had to eliminate white and silver because 75% of the cars around here are white or silver. Then graphite, which I love, had to go because the light being what it is here, graphite is hard to see a lot of the time.

But sapphire black metallic and coral red doesn't strike me as bland.
