Here's hoping he's/she's right. But with a majority in parliament, I would imagine it's going to get implemented.

I bet the next class of vehicles on the tax hike firing line would be 4wds. With no National Party to keep happy, this would be a sure thing. You mark my word.

Would an extra $400.128 stop you from buying the car, is the question that we all have to ask ourselves....

I know that it wont stop me

deff wont stop me! and i can't wait to take delivery of it!

but just annoying to suddenly find out you have to pay more even though you've signed a deal.
but oh well... guess things cant be changed now...

Oh, and got a reply from my dealer, said that when it does come in (either straight away or july) the charges will be transferred to us, as we suspected.

Hah, just got off the phone to my prospective dealer and he indicated that they'd wear the increase if they had a signed contract. Now, I am perfectly willing to say "crap" and that it's sales talk to a prospective buyer, but we'll see.

No disrespect to the dealer concerned, of course!

My dealer called today with a revised total for my 125i. The increase in LCT has added another $780 to the purchase price. Whilst this isn't a huge increase, it's equivalent to 9 months worth of insurance. Not happy Kevin!

Hmmm. Now, I am not a maths genius (seriously), but my Offer to Purchase shows $4077.59 as the LCT component on my 135i. If I calculate an 8% increase on that, it's $326.21 (rounded).

So, I'm not sure how they calculated $780 to your purchase price??

As Kris said, those who voted for labour is responsible! I have been overseas and was not aware of this until my Mercedes dealer called me. My C63 would be going up by $8000! So don't whinge about a few hundred dollars. BUT - there is a good ending to this - he then proceeded to tell me that there is a cancelled order that is exactly the same spec as mind, only difference is that it has electric rear blinds. If I want it I will have to pay by this week. Anyway, 24 hours later, the car is now in my name and fully paid for. Can't wait to pick it up when I get back!!!

You've only applied the additional 8% to the existing LCT amount, rather than the price of the vehicle...

$780 means more to some than others...

You need to gross up the $4077 to 100% sp divide by 0.25 ($4077 represents 25%). Then use the new number and multiply by 8%.

Fair comment. I guess all I am saying is that $780 is not a lot relative to $8000. But you are right.

That certainly is good news. Don't think that will happen to me "Mr SimonB, we have a 135i here that's been cancelled that is almost exactly the same as your order, except it has SatNav that we'll throw in for free if you pay for it now".

:w00t:

We can dream.

I just worked out that I am paying a shade over $17,000 in tax on my new car to be. Sheez. Now, that's depressing.

Hey SimonB, what colour is the one that got cancelled? As I currently ordered a white one with sat nav. Don't mind getting it earlier. I just spoke to the accountants at my work, they not sure if the luxury car tax kicks in straight away yet. If so, everyone with deliveries even this month will have to pay the tax. ARRRGRGHHH.

Can anyone confirm if it starts as of today?

TwoTriBeZ, it was a joke, sorry . You must be excited!

I believe that the LCT increase will apply from 1st of July, 2008. So, as I understand it, if you take delivery before then, you're in luck. If not, coff up.

haha I had a feeling it was possibly sarcasm. Nevermind. So it is not in effect immediately which is ok good for people getting delivery before then.
