Does anyone know the size of the turbo in the N55?

Does anyone know the size of the turbo in the N55? How does it compare to turbochargers already known (i.e. TDO4, mitusbishi 16 G, garret GT 28 etc)?

If we can compare it's size and efficiency with well known turbo's, we will be better able to know it's boost and power / efficiency limits.

Does anyone have pictures of this turbo?

Thanks.

Gumpy.

Here is a link to a picture of the turbo in the N55.

Physically, it looks similar to a Mitsu 16 G twin turbo in size. Anyone have any more specs.

size ALWAYS matters

That's quite a bit bigger compared to the fist sized twin turbo's.
But, we would need to know how it flows to know it's potential.

In my 1990 Mits turbo, the stock turbo size was the same as a 16G, but inside the path was noticeably smaller. When I installed the real 16G the difference was very easy to see.

The 3.0 TT uses the Mits TD03 turbo. I don't know who makes the TS turbo.
I found an upgrade turbo setup for the TT that uses the TD03 housing that is modded with a new compressor wheel and clipped turbines.
It's made by Vivid racing. But, the price is an astonishing $3500 WITH a core exchange. Ouch!
I bought my new 16G back in 1996 for about $600 from Majestic turbo in Texas, with no core exchange.

Yes,

I agree that we need more evidence on how efficient it is and how it flows. Hopefully someone can find a graph of the compressor map somewhere.

All I know is, I can hear my turbo when I punch it, and it sounds amazing! lol

MHI makes one, and they also make the TD03 in our TT engine.

But, I don't know if this is the turbo in the N55.

One thing that I found interesting from the article that RPM90 posted was;

"EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) system reduces the combustion temperature by
returning the exhaust gas to the intake air to reduce the amount of NOx."

So they are feeding exhaust to the intake ?? I thought you wanna have more Oxygen.

Nah, it is good to know... NOx (which is photochemical smog by another name) is formed due to high combustion temperatures. Adding a diluent gas keeps combustion temperatures down which prevents nox formation.

Yes, it isn't a great thing to have. No you generally can't bypass it without cels, and without watching egts, I wouldn't want to bypass.

It also can cause extra junk in the intake due to fine soot combining with moisture and vapors. They can also plug up then leak in at inopporrtune positions of throttle. IIRC evr should be shut at idle and WOT. It is a pollution prevention device for normal driving conditions...
