Don't want to sound rude, but when setting the route, have you checked that you have asked it to follow what you want. by that I mean; Shortest of Fastest or Use Motorway or Don't Use Motorway etc.
Don't want to offend, but thought I'd check.

yup i've tried them all. Heck, ive even ticked "exclude ferries" too see if it would work. I think i will need an upgrade to the navigation operating system to fix this issue. I will call BMW tommorrow to find out....

My $219 ebay solution. Has eastlink on it and seems (so far) to select logical routes. Sorry fo lousy foto. Tacky but effective.

That looks good , how do you have it mounted , looks like it might fit in the cubby hole on the top of the dash where the oem nav goes as well?

Too big for the cubby hole unless the lid is removed. I prefer it down there as it does not stick out like some phallic symbol and block the view of the road.
It is held in place by velcro (!) and is powered by the lighter socket behind it, so no dangly wires. It is suprisingly solid but can easily be removed and taken out - it has its own battery which lasts about an hour out of the car. Not everyone cup of tea but it works well, gets a good signal (except in tunnels) and is thousands less than idrive.

Sorry to hear that.
Touch wood, my nav (pro) is working fine at the moment, and I am pretty happy with it. qship. You've done well on price, and whilst I can't say my Nav was "value", I much prefer it over your solution. On top of that, the phone connection, steering wheel integration, voice command etc that come with the package, are so far working well and make the car much more enjoyable and practical for me. Like I say, can't say it was "worth" the money, but I am much happier with it. If money's not a major concern, I'd encourage people to get the Pro Nav every time. But we each have our price triggers.

I was told you get steering wheel integration with Bus Nav, just the voice button doesn't work. Dealer said only differences between Bus Nav and Pro Nav is voice command and perspective map view with Nav. On that basis I felt the Bus Nav system would be good enough. I currently don't use my mobile when driving unless exception circumstance, so I didn't see the value of the voice commands. And I hate perspective view on my PDA with Tom Tom, so Bus Nav seemed good enough for me.
However if aus_buster ends up finding out that the poor routing is a "feature" of the Bus Nav system, I'll be having some tough words with the dealer.

Anyone getting business nav, upgrade to pro. Reply from BMW :
Good Morning Raj, Thank you for your email, my apologies if there is some confusion surrounding our last conversation. As discussed, the business navigation components including the map disc itself, which are fitted to your vehicle, are made by a different manufacturer than the professional navigation components in your friend's vehicle. Therefore, whilst both systems will ultimately guide you to your destination, the route logic in either system will interpret and process information read from the map disc slightly differently. This in turn may affect the route taken to destination. aus_buster, what you need to do is find someone else with bus nav to do a side by side test to see if BMW is talking through their bum.

Damn! Given it is a $2800 option, you really don't expect it to function that badly.
Since the new iDrive is coming, I'm really quite glad I didn't fork out $4k on a system about to be replaced. Fingers are crossed it doesn't function too badly when she arrives next month.

Now I am totally confused I agree with Dodgy, the Nav system was never about value for money, and I optioned for the Bus Nav. for the iDrive more than the GPS. But if the Bus Nav. is flakey then I would rather stump up for the extra and option for the Prof Nav. To add further confusion is whether we are going to get the Nav. upgrade from the Sept build and what are the differences between the two systems. If I can, I would like to poll who has bought what Nav. package and their quick thoughts on it.

Put it this way, im heading off to the country side somewhere (wifes planning the trip) and im taking my trusty $250 TomTom cause i really dont trust the logic of the business nav unit...what a shame huh ?

Thanks Raj,
Will have a word with my friendly BMW man tomorrow. What is a few more $$$ between friends. Keep us updated with your meeting with Sensis. I believe that they also provide the data for TomTom as well as most other GPS systems, so I can't see what new light it may shine. I would still like to continue the poll if possible. Thanks all

Yes I think you're right there. I think the problem is the algorithm BMW uses to calculate the route, not the data. As I mentioned previously, try find another Bus Nav system and compare performance, then you'll know if it is your system or all Bus Nav systems that have the prob.
