Water Pump Leak From Housing?

Coolant is leaking from the housing. The bolts on the housing were slightly loose, one can not be tightened...seems stripped. Its a relatively new pump just put on a little over a year ago.

Has this happened to anyone else? Instead of the $450 pump I'm debating just boring a hole through the casing and resealing the unit myself with a nut and bolt. Thoughts?

Where did you get the pump? Parts warranty?

Its past 1 year. I forget where I got it from and didn't keep good records of it. Lesson learned. Either way, even if there was a warranty I would not want to have to send the part back for replacement and wait for a new one.

+1. IF bought from a BMW dealer the part has a 24 month warranty(no miles limit). As my good co-worker tech likes to say... "just bc its a new part does not mean it is a GOOD part"!

How many miles or months on the original part?

I may get the extended warranty consider how expensive repairs are on this car.

Always replace the aluminum bolts when replacing the water pump....
BMW should have given you/the shop those bolts automatically. Using the old ones is a bad idea and will result in loosening, I.e what happened to you.

Unless someone really f'ed up the thread holes...

Also make sure to check all hose clamps going to the water pump, one may be loose or not even tight, that is, if it's actually leaking from there..although parts aren't perfect, I dought its randomly leaking from the actual housing.

Just double check the work that was done..
