I want this steering wheel! A new hunt begins!
I have been contemplating a BMW Performance Steering Wheel but really wanted it restitched to match the orange interior stitching and I also preferred the previous V1 half and half leather/alcantara rather than full alcantara.
So found a German tuner TVW Designs that pretty much did exactly what I want. Problem is I have searched and searched for a contact to find out how I could order their version of the BMW Performance Wheel. Any help would be appreciated. Is this just a modified OEM performance wheel or a modified aftermarket one? I think I still want full leather (seems to hold up better than the alcantara) but this one might work. I'd be curious to see if they could do full leather. Those lights seem bright - I might worry about them taking away my night vision.
Looks great though!

interesting... subscribed!
I really love the v2 but from what i've heard theres some serious concerns about cracking the relatively thin plastic on top there compared to the v1..... Last edited by firechicken99; 07-10-2012 at 05:09 PM.. |

In case there is any other serious takers.....
the custom restitched OEM BMW Performance Wheel V2(pictured above) is 1300EUR. Maybe we can organize a group buy? Can we get 5 people that would be serious about getting it?

Metak, just to clarify: is it the TVW version you posted above with half alcantara half leather and the center part is also alcantara? Did you get this price from them directly? I might be interested depending on how bad/good will be their shiping quote to Chile, you know sometimes that quote ıs a deal killer for me. Do you know the lights are the same as the OEM performance wheel, I mean they just made the stitching over isn't it? Thanks.

For the OEM BMW Electronic Performance Steering Wheel (V2) (no orange stitching):
http://www.shopbmwusa.com/ProductDet...3600&perf=true
Not for M3 vehicles with Dual Clutch Transmissions. If the vehicle has option code S248 the heated steering function will no longer be active after installation. Air bag unit and multifunction buttons can be carried over from sport or M sport steering wheels but cannot be carried over from basic standard steering wheel. The infrared transmitter/receiver is optional and can be used with the electronic steering wheel to automatically and accurately record lap times. This transmitter/receiver is not approved for street use. Any damage to the vehicle resulting from use in a competitive event may void all or portions of the vehicle’s BMW Limited Warranty." Put me in as a 'maybe'. What makes it tough is that I have enough BMW dividend points to get the V2 'for free', but do prefer the look of this one with the 1/2 leather/alcantara and orange stitching, so will come down to pricing quite likely.

From speaking with a local upholster in regards to re-stitching the wheel or rewrapping the wheel, there is a concern because the stock wheel has the leather or alcantara glued to the steering wheel and therefore when it is re-upholstered or restitched, the material may slide around and may not be 100% stationary.
Not sure if it is true but figured I'd caution for people to do the research just in case. |

I would not worry about restitching. I had the "normal" performance steering wheel restitched and the yellow leather stripe replaced by an orrange one. Paid around 150 EUR for that. The shop which did that is now offering the restitched wheel for 550 EUR if I'm not mistaken.

Nope, you need to buy those additional transponders to achieve this. (at least that is my understanding). You dont need a car with GPS for this, so to your question I say definitely no

The way I understand it: You can do your own timing by push button (included), or buy the optional transmitter & receiver to do it automatically. The transmitter you set up stationary at the start/finish line. No navigation nor GPS involved.

Full leather, and the original m tri-color stitching would be my preferences. Regarding at the uplift for the on wheel second display, that gives little essential data beyond the dials 10 inches further down. Would probably sooner go for the P3 vent display. Did you consider that? TVW has exactly the full leather orange stitching performance seats that I'd go for. Of course without the 'competitione'(?) stitching. |

While the transponder sounds great, it sounds like it would be a major PITA for events where you didn't know the organizers or track staff well you know? |
