Here's the link that works.

Worth to see 10 min comparo, also for M3 enthusiasts.

good find

says everything I would especially around the 6 min mark which described me yesterday with my mellow co-worker who didn't understand but now thinks my car has got monster balls after a fun blast down twisty roads and then the autobahn!

This is one of my favorite 1M reviews. I actually agree with most of it

Not really a fair review considering the 1M is nearly 20k more than the mustang.

Really fun review and a neat idea to compare these cars. I wish they went more into the differences between the 1M and M3 rather than just saying how many parts are carried over. The engines almost couldn't be any more different, and it's something that really sets the M3 apart from not just the 1M but most other cars.

Maybe on the used car market, but that should be very telling in itself. New, the msrp was not even close to that far apart. More like a few thousand. M3 though would be close to 20k more.

i think thats a fair point.

i would say the cars definitely feel pretty similar overall, having owned both. the 1m is more jumpy and eager to turn in, and swing the tail around. personally, i am faster on the track in my 1M than i was in my M3, and thats partially because i feel more confident in the 1M.

the engines are very different as is the smoothness in the driving experience. for me personally, driving the 6mt in the 1M is a much easier experience than in the m3. the revs drop and raise very quickly in the m3, so it was more of a challenge to drive smoothly around town. it also had a boosted feeling clutch, so for me, it took a lot of focus.

i really like both cars, but prefer the aggression and more immediate nature of the 1M, and the fact that excitement and power are more accessible on a daily basis.

i think that point came accross well in the interview, and was why one guy chose the m3 over the 1M and the other vice versa.

overall, fun video. i enjoyed the presentation.

You are the first person I've ever heard say that they felt more confident in the 1M than the M3. I've driven both and think the 1M is a lot "scarier" to drive fast because of all the torque and short wheelbase.

i think it was because it turned in better for me and also braked better.

one other thing is that i didnt have the comp wheels on my m3, so the slightly wider wheels may have helped with grip and stability.

although, i am not an expert on the track, ive only done 4 HPDE events haha

I'd have to agree. The 1M is more difficult to drive at the track without question. It's more difficult to put the power down early and it rotates far more energetically than the M3.

Think they got their weights a little wrong:
M3 Coupe DCT - 1675kg
1M - 1570kg
Based on BMWs EU figures, real world will of course depend
on options.
Personally, I feel both the front end of the 1M and the M3 ZCP are similarly agile - 1M being the one more willing to rotate - great for tight bends - due to shorter wheel base, while the M3 has better high speed stability on longer sweeping corners. Both brilliant cars.

There seems to be 4 "affordable" cars that real car enthusiasts make a big deal out of: the M3, 1M, Boxster, and the Cayman.

I don't like the stigma that by owning the 1M, Boxster, or Cayman everyone thinks you bought it because you couldn't afford an M3 or a 911. I'm not the type of person who gives a **** what other people think, but it's a hassle having to defend yourself and explain your purchase to others --this seems to be a topic that drives my buddy with the 1M nuts. It's all an ego thing at the end of the day, but you should have a smile on your face if you own any of the four.

PS > The Boss is not that great of a car, I've driven one.

Haven't driven a 1m and I have no desire to for the price, however I did own a boss and drove an m3 on track. The boss is one track minded, and if I was buying a track car the boss is the best choice hands down. However that's not what everyone's looking for. Especially those who are shopping M cars. The m3 is the better all around car and there's no doubt about it. If I had to do it over I would have bought the m3. The 1m at 40k might get some consideration but there's far too many cars you can get for that money that is better in every regard

In the context of talking to people that know about cars.... They wouldnt think someone bought a 1M because they couldn't afford a M3. But they would think that someone bought a 335 because they couldn't afford a M3.

And given that money is no object I can't imagine many people taking a boxster over a 911 so....

Love the 1M... Won't ever be able to afford one...

An e90 M3, however, yeah, one day...

Well, I traded in a E90 M3 for 1M and am trying to figure out what car is better than 1M at anywhere near the price. I even disagree with the notion that M3 more practical--at least in coupe form, I think back seat in 1M is better tho harder to get into (as if a kid would ever care about that!)
