Has anyone oil sprayed their 1?

I'm keeping mine long term, and I know oil spraying works in keeping rust away (Rust Check or Krown). Just wondering if anyone has done theirs and has your dealer given you a hard time about it?

If it involves drilling any holes, you will destroy the zinc coating on the unibody where the hole is drilled, leading to a rust starter spot.

Any other oil spraying externally on the unibody won't do any better than the factory plastic coating and may lead to damage on any bitumen coated components. Oil spraying on the underbody will probably be most effective in causing environmental pollution above anything else.

Oil spraying may have been effective on older cars even into the '90s, but has debatable value on modern cars, especially if you have to drill and plug holes to apply it.

Question oil spray

I myself a new member, also thinking about the getting my 09 rustproofed as i plan to keep it and drive in winters on a winter set of tires/rims. Anyone else get it done yet?
Does it really void factory bmw warranty if completed by a reputable rust proof organiz. such as Krown,etc...??
Thanks for the info about getBMWparts.com

I did not spray mine but mine is a mainly 3 season car. I was told that if the spray was not done properly, there is actually a potential to trap water and accelerate rusting.

I drive my car year round, and wouldn't do it on a BMW... not necessary and could cause more harm than good.

wait 4-5 years

car is probably OK for 4-5years; get it done then. In the mean time, clean your wheel wells every time you wash car especially in spring. If you ever get your car up on a hoist, give it a thorough visual inspection. Touch up any spots starting to show rust.

^ thanks for the feedback all.

I oil spray and salt wash my other vehicles once a year. Been doing so since the 80's. With the BM I know the gauge of the sheetmetal and the coatings and the finish is a bit better, but steel is steel and moisture and salt will eventually have its effects.

Every time I switch out the wheels I use a brush and Krown (I buy a 4L jug) and coat most everything I can reach. Maybe that'll do it. I want to pass the car down to my 9 year old when he gets old enough to drive, so I want it to last.

Ps. BMW says 10 years against perforation, which is good, but I do see rust on older BMW's. Just like the 25000kms between oil changes - for 160,000kms it's no problem but beyond that I wonder...

Kind of a side question but I have a few paint chips along my wheel wells and some are pretty deep so I was wondering if anyone could recommend a good paint touch-up shop in the GTA? Was hoping to have it fixed before winter comes around.
