I got heavily rear ended in my old M3 years ago and after five trips back to the dealer (weeks at a time) over a twelve month period they concluded they could not get it right and ordered a new car for me. Then in the interim they asked for the loaner back and would I use my old "now repaired" car. Two days latter in the "repaired" car the right rear corner dropped, tire blew, hit the center divide and rolled four times. Wife and sons made it out ok, I had six hours of surgery, and this time they considered the car totaled.

If I have an accident of any substance I am not keeping it. I'd get my insurance company to buy me a comparable is. Good luck -

Those pictures show the car is a complete loss, no question about it.

Geez, sorry about the accident. How is this NOT a total loss? And why in the world would you still want this car? I don't get it......
Take the insurance money.....get a new car

A pretty standard deal is they set a "salvage value" on the car, and you can buy it for that, and pay for it from what they would have given you. But it's unlikely you can negotiate, they know pretty well what the wreck is worth to them. Also unlikely for them to have any interest in selling you just the bits you want. They run these cars through a system, any variation is a hassle for them. But I could be wrong about both of those. And you could ask them who'll be parting it out.

I once had a big win here. They totalled my several year old car for hail damage that covered the whole car. I bought it for the salvage value, paintless dent repair made it decent for not that much money. Won't happen again, at the time paintless dent repair was not on their list of fixes, now it is.

OUCH! man...that's one less cousin of my car running on the roads. Well, I'm glad you're okay. Good luck with dealing with the hassle.

As a side note, you can always scour the US for another 'is' or jump on an M235i.

Depending on where you're located, there is a 135is with less than 2,000 miles at my local dealership in Massachusetts

Wow, glad you're alright. As pretty much everyone else in this thread has advised: Take the money and get another car. Its really not worth trying to fix it. It won't be the same. Best of luck.

I had the same thing happen with my 135i. And insurance considered my car totaled. I got to remove the mods and they paid me an extra grand because the aftermarket exhaust couldn't be removed. Which was cool because I only paid $600 for it. I was lucky enough to find the same year 135i as my old one, but with more miles. And to be honest, I do enjoy the new one more tho.
I'm not to sure tho, how many 135is there are floating around.
As much as I love the 1series. Have you considered a new car altogether. I mean. If u don't find another 135is.

Apart from maybe not having the same integrity in a crash, what is different about it?

BTW I would rather an un damaged car. And sorry for your loss.

I share the same sentiments regarding ditching the car, all air bags have been deployed, which from a manufacture stand point the car is history.

With the extensive damage in the pictures, I doubt any body shop would be able to get the suspension and frame into factory spec. This means that car is going to drive funny. It may pull to one side or the other, have premature tire wear because the car can't be aligned correctly, etc, etc.

Not quite the same situation, but with motorcycles where there is any damage to the frame, the insurance company usually totals the bike. The insurance company doesn't want the liability of repairing a bike with frame damage.

I don't think I would even consider trying to bring that back to life. Depending on where the car is sitting right now, you may be able to swap some of the more minor bolt ons. Was it towed to a dealership or a local body shop?

How'd the firewall get damaged? You said it though. If there's structural damage, it's toast. If there isn't, it can be rebuilt into a track car if you're willing to replace everything and strip it to it's core. This isn't worth being a street car again.

Now granted, some things on the car are worth significant money if they're in good condition, mainly the engine + turbos. Can be worth 5k+ depending on condition.

the fact that the front fender has been shifted to cover over 4 to 6 inches of the passenger door tells me that the insurance company got this on eright. trust me when i say you dont want this one back. It will never be right with all the damage that is needed to be repaired. Take the loss and go get another one.

I do like the idea of doing a buy back and using the motor/trans for a track car. Even then i would not use the frame/sub frame assembly.
