Driver Seat Leather worn??!!

Just wanted to reach out and ask is it just mine or others.

My 2011 128 with leather and 9800 miles on it.
The drivers seat right at the seam where the lap portion of the seat belt rubs across it is wearing quickly.
It will be going in for annual service in the next couple weeks.
I want to complain and actually replace it.

My Wife's Acrua TSX with 60,000 has no wear on the seat at all.

So is this "normal" or is it just mine??

My case is not a wearing issue, but the seat is squeaking hard just over the backrest adjustment. They will be replacing the leatherette under waranty. 2011 32,000 km

Mine happened real quick too. They said there was nothing they can do about it. Someone of my "stature" will cause that to happen. They wouldn't replace the seat for it to just happen again in a year. They said they were looking for a more permanent solution but never found one. I was told to just be careful getting in and out to not rub on the side so much. Hahaha. Fat kids ruin seats. Hahahaha.

Jesus, I've had mine approaching 6 years and I still have minimal wear. Of course, I am careful getting in and out of the seat. And I use leather conditioner, so yeah..

Same, but I'm at 41k. It's like only the piping is starting to show discoloration. Anyone know of a possible fix...?

My 2009 with about 61k km (~40k miles) Looks very similar to this except I have black leather and mine might be worse. I got my car in the winter and was planning to try some kind of leather repair treatment this summer when I can work on it when everything is warm. There are many products out there that claim they will make it look new again but I have yet to try one.

I have noticed the stiching is starting to stretch the leather at 11000 KMs.

I expect to get Nappa retrim on the front seats at 60,000KMs or so. I honestly dont know why I dont do it already, I got qouted $3000 (thats like $1500 if it were in the US).

The solution is a retrim in better leather with better stitching.

But seriously, you can have a leatherworker fix all these issues, except for maybe mine.

Bought a 11 135M Sport AW with. Coral Red at Global in Atlanta. The passenger seat was faded on the side. They had a girl in house who sprayed painted the area, looks perfect after 1 year. Check with your dealer, I bet they know someone to do it.

FWIW I believe the seats are rated to a max of 250 LBS. If you are under 250 lbs don't let them say it is because you are fat LOL.

Leather wears. Real leather even more so. Really there isn't much you can do to fix it if it is cracked, you have to basically just keep treating it BEFORE it cracks. I bought mine and the coral red is pretty beat up on both seats.

The only way to avoid it is treat it often and/or don't even sit in the car. Basically, its going to happen one way or another.

And I'm about 180 pounds.

I have a hard time believing an Acura has no wear after 60k miles. Japanese cars have the WORST leather ever.

I got my car 2 months ago and it has white interior. I noticed the same on my seats when I was cleaning it. Completely missed it when I was looking to buy the car. Only has 4k miles on it too. Very noticeable with the white seats.

Not sure if I should bring it in now for early service or just wait till august for my first scheduled maintenance. Either or I'll bring up all of the issues when I bring it in.

LEather

Thank you all for the comments.
The photo posted is exactly where mine is wearing, perhaps a bit more.
But I have just 10,000 miles on it.
I understand about taking care of leather. Not my first leather interior.
I put leather treatment on ALL my cars several times a year.
All of my Acura's would end up with lines and eventually cracks in the leather.
But not WORN like this on the piping so early on with so little miles.

It happened on my 2002 Acura RSX. With my 2013 1 series, I get in facing perpendicular to the dash.

Leatherique

I used Leatherique and dyed my gray E46 leather seats (PO had left tires on the back seat-that stain does not come out) and the drivers seat had some small cracking. Follow their instructions precisely and you'll get good results. Leatherique may ask you to send them a small swatch of your leather so go under the seat or between seat cushion and back rest & cut off a small piece. I was extremely pleased with results. I sold the car soon after. I saw the car again a year or 2 later and drivers seat cushion did need some attention again but I had lots of the product still left over.

This area wears (and the entire bolster eventually) due to the friction of your belt loops rubbing as you climb in and out. There's no real prevention to the wear unless you carefully climb in and out.

Which is why despite the lack of ventilation and suppleness in the leatherette, I'd still take it any day over leather because it wears like IRON.

Been doing motorcycle seats for years possibly decades using this technique, many may think I'm nuts, so be it. The problem you will have is matching the color

Krylon paint, let dry, rub down with Bear grease, neatsfoot oil, maybe leather conditioner IDK about that one etc. Obviously masking is important as well. Leather wears, period, I agree its too soon.

Hell maybe theres a youtube vid on the painting technique, I got the idea from a very old experienced upholsterer. He was adamant about krylon paint however

One thing that has helped for me is to not wear jeans when driving the 1M. The material and small brass fittings are very abrasive. When wearing jeans and getting in the car, I would rub against the left side bolster. It caused a lot of wear on my prior BMW. My 2 cents.

My left upper side bolster was worn and also had spider cracks (not completely through the leather, more like major wrinkles). The seat bottom side also had major wrinkles, both of these happened at around 10k miles. Given the low miles and the condition, the BMW rep agreed to replace the top and bottom seat leather under warranty.
