Thanks for the video btw much more helpful than the measurements!
It's a 2013 BMW 135i n55. Ya the gears sound very audible in this vid but its really no different than anyone else's when the car is turned off and you put it in an out of gear and you hear it. Also my garage echoes quite a bit which helps carry the sound and the car door was open while I recorded it. The shifting is a bit jerky because I wasn't holding my hand how I naturally would so that the the throw difference was visible. Had I held my hand and arm how I naturally do when I drive it would have hidden it more when demonstrating. Yes the videos really put the difference into perspective
Ah yeah that was my guess...door open, indoors, probably concrete garage? I think it was just the echo

Tell you what this thing really takes some getting used to (in a good way). Sometimes I cant even tell what gear im in now just by putting my hand on the shifter and feeling where it is; I actually have to look sometimes lol. 4th almost could pass as neutral haha which was why I made the comparison vids. Eventhough people took pics It was hard for me to tell what was what sometimes even if they labeled it. Now I understand why. The dist. is so short the position dosent change much. But I definitely like it. Just have to get used to it

I went straight to the video without reading your comments about 4th & neutral looking alike and that's the first thing I thought to myself and was going to ask about it but I noticed you had already mentioned it.

I will say it is weird looking down and being in forth but it looks like neutral and fools you. Which is why I said I somethines have to look now because I cant tell by just putting my hand on it. But after driving today for the second day Im becoming much more comfortable with it and I enjoy the much shorter throw. Its literally a flick of the wrist so effortless. I think after a weeks time Ill be completely adjusted to it. Already felt more natural driving it today as apposed to yesterday. Go ahead and throw it on man. Worst case scenario you hate it and you can just throw your stock shifter right back on

just get a weighted shift knob.. IT definitely makes the throws cleaner and faster.. i like short throws, but the n55 isnt bad atall, so the weighted will make it feel alot quicker..

Ya I know about those stupid GOV computers bro. And they are always slow. Loving the combo. When you go home check out my comparison vids towards the bottom of page 3. I shot one demonstrating the stock throw 1st through 6th and then did the same thing after I installed the SSK

Has anyone gone ahead and tried this on an N54?

On my 318ti, I did the entire change to a Z3M shifter which involved what seems to be more work. I read through this entire thread and it seemed that this was only done on N55. Now I've only owned my N54 for a total of two days, but I completely miss my short throws.

Is there any reason that I am missing on why this can't be done/attempted on my N54?

Well I think no one ever tried this combo on an n54 because BMW makes a specific short shift kit for your car. They didn't for the n55 which was why we tried this route. But if you wanted to save money guess you could try this also. But since they(BMW Performance) make a specific short shift kit for the n54 I'd just get that if I were you

Ahhh. Please excuse my current limited knowledge! I've been in e36 land for over 8 years and only in the e82 world for a few days!

I think I am still going to try this out on my N54. I'm going to be a cheap ass and save $30. I'm ordering the parts right now and report back once I get it installed!
===========================

Just checked Tisher for prices. Turns out the N54 perf. short shifter is CHEAPER than the e90 perf. ss. Maybe later down the road I'll pick up a e90 PSS and really drop the shift throw.

No need to apologize. That's why we are all here to learn. Let us know how it works on the n54. Btw the e36 is still my fav BMW body style by far and I miss the 2 I had

I always had the intention to install a SSK, but I'm happy with the stock N55 throw, much nicer than Audi/VW stick.

Gonna refer back to Post #53 when I install my short shift lever next week.
e90 parts sounds kinda ridiculous.
Went with the 25110434217 128i part.
Will try to get measurements before and after, and hoping it doesn't move positioning too far forward (e90) or off to the side (e60). I don't want to have to bend it - particularly once I get it installed.
Should go nicely with ZHP knob, CDV Delete, BMS clutch stop, 335is pedals and UCP - which I've been enjoying for over a year now.

My uuc ssk is great. Just had to install extra c clip to eliminate the 2mm up down pull movement
