I've had the car for almost two weeks now (lovin' it - btw)
I was turning right and a woman was turning left - she went out of her way (smiled then asked) and wanted to know if it's a new 3 series or something... I said no, it's the new 1. she said WoW I really like it! - VERY nice!

Yesterday on northbound 880 in Milpitas I had a new blue 335 loiter for awhile over my left shoulder, then pull up beside me. A couple guys inside gave me the thumbs up and a big smile. it feels good!

saturday i took the car up to nashua to run some errands. i forgot how much fun route 3 is, especially with a v1 riding shotty.
cruising at 80 when i see this black 3 coming up behind me. i can see it's an older guy driving with others, so i move over to let him by, not expecting anything. he slows up while passing me, so now i'm really confused. all 4 people in that car started waving & thumbs-up-ing. then the best part, the guy straight up floors it n takes off to about 100...kicking it in the 330xi. so we had a great century cruise for a good 10 miles, even within the limits of break-in! i love this car

OK, I have been reading this thread for sometime. All my encounters have been positive. Well except for the one my friend’s wife and her GF said it looked cute. But I figure that’s a good thing for a single guy. Having a car that attracts the woman without the absurd cost.
Anyway I have had 4 people int he past month either, stop me in a parking lot, pull up next to me at a light or start chatting with me at the gas pump. All have been "Nice car, do you like it" I like the color" "How much was it" "Where did you get it" "Is it fast" Just yesterday I was pulling out of a parking spot and low and behold this woman waiting to get in stops me yelling "its 1 series, it’s a 1 series" Like it was the first time she had seen one in person. She continued to ask me a plethora of questions (similar to the above) till some other car came up behind and started beeping there horn. Thanks goodness to the other car or might still be there. :roundel: That was probably the most questions and comments I have gotten from one individual. I did also have a little fun racing this pickup truck. I think it was a dodge ram srt. we played around for about 30 minutes of driving till I had to exit. At first he didnt' seem to want to play, but he finally stepped on it trying to catch me offer guard. No match for the 135i. But it was funny he took off this one time and I wasn't really paying attention so I was playing catchup. Came to this corner and blasted by him at about 120. Car was clued to the road. I am pretty impressed with these run flats but do feel i could do alot more with stickier tires. Well that’s my rant on this subject hope you all enjoyed.

I was sitting at a redlight and the cars in the right turning lane were passing by. A car stopped next to me and I noticed it out of the corner of my eye. I look over and there was a guy looking at my car and nodding. When he looked at me, he yelled "Nice car" and took one last look at my car and nodded again and drove off (by that time, the cars behind him had started to honk their horns).

I was driving home today and passed a guy going the opposite direction in an Aston Martin DB9. We both craned our necks to look at the other person's car.. that was pretty cool.

The first night I had my 1 a girl jumped out of her car behind in an In & Out drive-through line to ask me if this is the new 1 series and if I had to import it.
I've got plenty of waves, thumbs-up and people speeding to catch up and hover around me. Just today I had a drop a shaka-bra out of a 335i sedan window. And my favorite, I went to compliment a guy's clean MBZ 190E 2.3-16 right when he was coming over to say how much he liked my car. |

Not what he said but this is the best reaction/compliment I had.
I was stopping by a tony shopping center in Irvine called The District for a quick picker-upper dinner. I paused briefly at a stop sign waiting for this family of three to cross. Mom and dad strung their 3-4 years old boy towards the AMC theater. The little boy and I made eye contact and he kept his glance in my direction the whole time. Even after they crossed the street he still kept his glance on me, with his head turned back looking at me with his big eyes, stopped only when his dad dragged him on to the curb. I wanted to rev the engine for him but was afraid I might scare him.

Talked to a really nice guy today who approached in parking lot. Said he really liked the styling on the car. Talked more with him, turns out he's a 2004 m3 owner who's considering buying the 135. Just likes the styling etc on the car alot. Said he'd rather buy the 135 for his position rather than the new e9x M3s because he didn't like the design and appearance. Showed him the interior and really liked it still.

I passed a new M3 as I was leaving my house this morning, looked really nice, stood out among the mass of BMW's. The driver also noticed my 135i, we did the male head nod to each other! Does anyone else notice that most other BMW drivers have no clue that the 1 series even exists? I have had more notice from exotic car owners than BMW's. We really kind of blend into the crowd of 3 series, until you get out of major cities, then you stick out like a sore thumb!

Actually, I have been stopped a few times on the road. It's happened a few times where people have stopped what they are doing to give me a thumbs up or ask about the car.
One guy in a civic started a whole conversation at a red light. Wanted to know pricing, etc. The 1 is definately a looker.

I had a bunch of comments like that but mostly from people I know.
Last car I owned was 05 Civic SI HB (Made in England) with ORG Type-r body kit. I had people sloping me on the street, in front of the stores or anywhere and talk to me, want to buy it and stuff, It happened at least once a week since I got it brand new. What I noticed with 135 is that people would stand there and look at it and walk around bat when I would come close they would just stand there. For some reason they all seam reserved to talk to me or say something. Anyone else notice this? |

Another comment at a stoplight. I had my top down and a guy in the next lane screamed "Hey"! I looked over and he asked me if I wanted to trade cars. He was driving a well maintained older Camaro, so I told him "nahhh."
I have seen a lot more people looking than commenting, but its all good. |

Saturday, out with the wife and daughters, noticed a newer Audi A4 trying to get around cars to either pass me or see the car. I got up beside me and I could see he wasn't passing.
I look over, and the driver, a ~40 y.o. chap, was looking right at me.. "REALLY NICE CAR!!" he shouted. I gave him the thumbsup, thanks, and took my left. Nice tho. |
