Replace starter in 128i

So I have had starting problems with my 2010 128i. It makes a strong humming sound, but does not seem to engage the flywheel, no cranking. Press the start button a couple of time then it will finally start up. I replaced the battery, but that didn't make a difference and yes I did re-program it for the new battery. Have the "Carly for BMW" app and adapter. I also checked the positive terminal in the engine compartment and it seems fine. So I'm thinking it's the starter. I looked for a DIY on this, but couldn't find one. Any ideas how hard a job it is. I'm hopping it's just drop the panel and replace. Probably not. Lol.

Here is the pelican parts guide for it (links for intake manifold removal are on there too).

http://www.pelicanparts.com/BMW/tech...eplacement.htm

Here is the video I used.

My car got stranded in NYC because of the starter. Luckily BMW dealer was the next block over so me and my friends pushed the car there. They quoted me $1500 to fix it. Mechanics at the shop ended up bump starting the car for me. Drove it 4 hours home after that and tackled the DIY in the middle of winter in the parking lot.

I broke the breather hose behind the engine. It becomes brittle over time so be careful when removing it. Other than that, it's basically intake manifold removal and reinstall with 3 screws for the starter.

Here is the OEM Bosch starter I used (No core charge). https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Damn - it couldn't have been that hard, less than 5 hours between posts, lol. Congrats.

How do you bump start a BMW with push button?

Does it work like a regular car that's manual?

Battery has to at least power the inside/computer so the fuel pump can prime.

Press start button without having your foot on the clutch. It'll turn everything on without trying to crank the engine.

(this is what it says in the owner's manual, I know there's other methods). Hook up your tow hook and have another car pull yours, get to like 15 mph and put it in 2nd, hold the clutch in and then slowly let it out and the engine should run, immediately clutch in -> neutral and unhook the tow and be on your way!

OR just have your favorite friend push and you hop in and dump the clutch.

I used desertman's method when my starter died. Start button primes the ignition and you release the clutch into 2nd gear. Had a friend push me, started fine.
