2014 ///M235i, goodbye IS model designation

The ///M235i. Au revoir IS models.

There is also a note about M-Performance exclusive engines. My bet is that means over-boost characteristics like on the 1M.

And furthermore:

"As BMW is renaming the coupe and convertible models the 2 Series (the hatchback will retain its 1 Series nomenclature),
the M235i coupe will be the official successor to the 1 Series M Coupe."

Me like.

Looks like BMW is further diluting the M image. First with the 1M which isnt much more than a 135i with some added bits and the N54 off the regular engine assembly line and now a very mildy tuned N55 with be the new 2 series M engine? Glad I got my good ole N54 with the PPK, it makes more hp than the yet unreleased N55 2M? car. I'll be keeping my 1 for a while it seems.
"Efficient dynamics" is killing BMW.

So ghey, my 1st bimmer was an E30 325is. This move dilutes the M brand IMHO.

Isn't much? LSD? M3 suspension? I would say that's a lot.. And none of these M235 or whatevers are going to come with an LSD either which is pretty upsetting..

I have both a 1 series M coupe and a 135i ( my brother also has a 128i) and can say without a doubt that the 135i and 1M are nothing alike. The may be based off the same platform and share similar engines but that's it. The entire driving dynamic is different. The 1m in short hauls ass.... In any direction you turn the wheel!

Offical successor to the 1M....... who writes this junk

The M235 will be just a coupe version of the just out M135 hatch, so hardly even close to the mechanical spec of a 1M.

The M235i is NOT the official successor to the 1M.
It is simply a current 135is.
It does not dilute the M Brand, BMW has been using this nomenclature since the 80's with the M535i which was sold alongside the ORIGINAL M5.

IMO the e82 looks way better than the F20. And my car is debadged so I don't really mind either way.

Yup, if they make a successor to the 1 Series M Coupe, it'll be the M2, no reason not to do it right this time, plenty of time and they don't have to worry about the M1 name.
