De-Badging?

Ok so maybe I'm showing my age but would someone please explain why you would want to debadge your new 1'er?
Is it so if you drive a 135 that nobody knows what you have or if you drive a 128 people think you have something you don't?
Let the flaming begin.

Its easier to wax around and gives the back a more symetric look.

Just extra "visual noise" on the rear end maybe? I'm sure some ppl will do it so they can say their 128i is a 135i to casual bystanders, or maybe a 135i owner wants a "sleeper." Seems to be done on more and more cars these days... I see debadged BMW's, Acuras, Hondas, Audis all over the place.

Then there's the opposite trend of adding badges that make no sense... maybe I'll put a "Type R" badge on my 135i.

Most UK BMW owners tend to debadge 520d's... they think people can't tell that it's a '4 pot' diesel, but it's pretty easy when it's got a single exhaust.

I can imagine a lot of 120d owners doing the same as it has the same exhaust as the 123d.

I did consider it for my 135i because it makes it quite stealthy, but given how much money I am spending on it and how vain I am I want ppl to know that it's a 135 haha!

Maybe debage a 135i and get an "M" badge.

Yes, we have had a pretty thorough discussion of this (not that there isn't room for more). The above link has pros/cons and a couple of techniques to take that badge off if you want.

Moving from the UK I can tell you why I will debadge. Generally, I have found people here in the states are more bothered about what numbers you have on the car and how much your car costs rather than the driving experience. Now before you all attack me, this is just my opinion based off my experiences alone. Your experiences may differ. Anyway, Ill be debadging my 135i if I get it because I dont want to be part of the rat race and elitism that seems to be preoccupying my neighbours and colleagues. If anyone even realises what my car is (believe it or not most people dont have a clue a new BMW is being released) I wont mind if they think my car is a 128i or anything else.

The bottom line is as long as I enjoy my driving experience, its all good!

Pure and simple - it is easier to clean and looks less cluttered round the back. But that is just me.

I am going to debadge not because of what ppl think like some others its easier to wax and clean.. like I really care what ppl think.. half the people out there dont know anything about cars and some even think some hondas are bimmers and vice versa.. its all about you.. your car.. you decide.. and since mines a 135i.. if they dont believe me ill just own them on the road lol... jk on the last part haha..
