Programming options in E90- through dealer or Idrive?

Hey, I was just wondering i wanted to program some
things when my car comes in a week:
-turn off day light running lamps
-car locking at 8mph automatically
-unlocking when i put in park
-programming chirping sound when locked
and unlocked(blinking lights)
-Headlights stay on for 30 seconds after locking

In my previous lexus the dealer had to configure these.
Same case with bmw or is it integrated in Idrive?

In my mom's mercedes it is integrated through the dash display
settings.

If your car is post-Sept production (and it sounds like it will be), then you will be able to do most of this yourself whenever you like.

There are a number of threads on this forum about how to do this. It's very easy.

You can do all those through I-drive and even without I-drive for cars manufactured after Sept. 1. In fact I just programmed my car earlier this AM.

However, I believe the chirping is only available if you have the BMW alarm. Others can confirm or deny this fact. I have the alarm, so it chirps. But when I picked-up in Munich originally it didn't chirp, since I didn't have the alarm yet.

...and since your car is coming in a week, it should be post-september production, and therefore all you need to do is read the manual when you get your car. i believe your SA will walk you through it as well when you pick your car up.

You can do all except have it unlock when in park. It is my understanding that this option does not exist in the E90.

Also, I don't think you can have the lights stay on after getting out of the car. The feature that does this is called "pathway lighting" and from what I've been able to gather from having my car a week and reading the manual is that pathway lighting can only be activated with the lights are in the off position (not auto) and then you flash you high beams just after you turn off the car to activate the pathway lighting feature.

It definately does not activate when flashing the high beams with the lights in the auto position after turning off the car because I have tried several times and I do have pathway lighting turned on for 40 seconds in the appropriate iDrive menu.

My car will activate pathway lighting while set on auto, 12/05 build.

Can you go over the procedure you use to make sure it's not me misinterpreting the instructions?

This is what I've tried (lights in "auto" position): turn off engine with the button (still have accessory power), pull back (towards me) on the turn signal stalk and the high beams activate while pulled back, release turn signal stalk, lights are off completely, and push engine button to turn off accessories. At this point there is no pathway lighting. Do I have the procedure wrong?

Is pathway lighting the same feature as the illuminated door handles (kind of gives the car a UFO appearance)? I thought it served the same function.
TIA

hey agent,

iDrive will allow you to program the car quite extensively. BMW does not have an unlock feature when you put the gear in park due to its locking system.

One special feature of BMW door locks is its deadlocking capabilities. If someone broke a window to gain access and tried to pull up the lock knobs, they would not release and the doors (all 4 for the sedan) will stay firmly locked.

When the car starts moving, the doors can be programmed to auto lock at a certain speed. When stopped, you need to first unlock the door by pulling on the (interior) handle. You need to pull on the handle again to actually open the door so you can get out of the car.

The deadlock system has been a long standing feature of BMWs and it is in the e46 model as well as other series.

All the best with your new car.

How unlucky would you be if that happened. Still, if it did, it can be fixed.

Dont worry, the car is great

I have the same problem whereby when my lights (adaptive xenon) are in the auto position, the pathway lighting will not turn on when I flash the lights when I stop the engine.

I have seached to forum but can't find the answer to this specific question.

I have comfort access, could that relevant to this problem as the behavior of the car when you press the engine stop button is a bit different from a non CA car.

I know on the E46 that you must have the engine and all accessories off and then you pull and release the highbeam flaser and then the pathway lighting will activate. This is what I've done for years on an '02 330Ci w/ auto lights.

I think my wife is going to rip the handle off the door one of these days.

I can confirm that it works the same on the E90. I just tried it. Everything must be off: engine and accessories. I then pulled back on the turn signal stalk and the lights came on and stayed on for the duration of time I had set in the iDrive menu.

How do you make sure everything is 'off' when you have comfort access. More of the car remains active until you exit by design. The radio stays on, the lights stay on etc.

When you leave the car and close the door the radio will then turn off, the lights, the steering wheel locks etc.

So how do I activate my pathway lighting (aka see-me-home function)?

You push the Start/Stop button again after stopping the engine. This turns off all of the accessories. Now flash the high beams and the lights will stay on according to the pathway lighting settings.
