Break light on post brake job
I replaced all 4 pads about 5 months ago and I am now getting a red light (!) and the car service in red. I tried to reset using the speedo but I can't get it to reset. I did not replace the sensors. (they looked fine)
Do you have to replace the brake sensors regardless or can I cut them out and loop them past the sensor? (I don't need the car to tell me when its time for a brake job) |

If the sensor had worn thru already then it cannot be used again. When it wears thru, it trips the count down. Once the countdown has reached 0 distance remaining, the red car on hoist icon will appear. At this point, the dash reset is not possible. You have to use a scanner to reset it, after replacing or looping the sensor.
If you plan on keeping the car for a while just buy a new sensor and dont clip it in. Just keep an eye on the pads and monitor it yourself. But if you dont like getting dirty or playing with dentist mirrors then there is no alternative |

You can unplug the sensor and put a thin wire across the two pins on the plug to jumper the old sensor out, then go through the reset procedure and the service alert will clear. Tape off the connector if you want it to be permanent.
Or just order new sensors, not that expensive |
