Installing the Remus Quad exhaust (56k killer)

As I got the Remus exhaust, I immediately noticed it was well packed. as I tore it open I was happy with the quality of the setup and the coating was excellent on the exhaust.

A few pics:

The bag of Hardware included...

opened...

You will need for installation:

-Drive Up ramps
-Flashlight/ work light
-Dremel
-set of wrenches
-set of sockets
-needle nose pliers
- Some type of lubricant (I had pool equipment lube around so I used that)
-yourself
-some beer (optional)

Start by removing the rear diffuser using this DIY:

http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showthread.php?t=209818

Once taking off the rear diffuser, you will see the mounting points on the muffler. Remove the mounting points as well as the line going to the muffler as pictured here, and put a box under the muffle to support the weight of the muffler

Now go down under the car and remove the bolts connecting the exhaust to the resonator and the last mounting point under the car:

Now remove the exhaust from the car:

Cut the Exhaust 2 inches from the muffler on the old exhaust using a dremel or or electric hacksaw and connect piping to the main Remus muffler:

Now it's time to add the mounting bracket for the other side of the exhaust. It simply bolts onto an existing bolt on the other side of the car, after attach the main exhaust by reversing the steps shown:

Now attach the second side of the exhaust piping to the exhaust and tighten all hardware:

Cut the rear diffuser by tracing over the original side of the exhaust and flipping the traced piece over and cutting with a dremel (sorry no pics, but it's pretty easy and self explanatory).

Next a notch for the exhaust needs to be cut with a dremel in this piece (will take picture of notch cut, forgot when installing):

After completing all of these steps, replace the diffuser using the DIY posted at the beginning, Fire it up, and take a test drive to enjoy the sound, and check for exhaust leaks.

By this time the sun should be setting, so sit back, crack open a beer, and enjoy looking at your new exhaust...

A+ man. Does it pretty dramatically change the sound or is it just a cosmetic mod?

Thanks for the compliments guys.

It is still very quiet, but the tone has changed significantly...Its much more aggressive and deeper now. I personally like a little bit louder exhaust so I am going to get a set of downpipes to pair with this.

Great writeup RC, thanks!

A more centered look is close to impossible with the way the 135i's underbody is layed out. Major modifications of the underbody, the bumper, and the piping are necessary which involves too many variables to make it an affordable quad solution to the market.

If you would like a quote on the 135i QUAD, please PM us!

We are in discussion with REMUS GmbH directly for change in tips.

It took me about 2hrs (including putting the DIY together) It shouldn't take a shop more than an hour for the exhaust and 20-30 minutes for the cutout (took my time and sanded it with a dremel as soon as I got close to the size it should be so it would be more precise)... MAX a shop should charge you is 2 hours.

Did you modify your stock diffuser?

If so can you take some close up pics?

IF you run a four pipe exhaust don't forget to use some heatshield material above the battery box area. I remember one poor guy here melted his charcoal cansiter near teh fuel tank. ~$1000 repair bill.

What were the other pieces of hardware in the bag used for? Such as the plastic tubing and the black piece of plastic with notches in it ?
