Apparently one forum member had the problem solved by having the dealer rip the dash apart. I know that sounds extreme, but if the noise bothers you that bad, might be worth it.

yup that was me. car's fine now. if it really bothers you just get them to fix it. it's free, you get a loaner and except for the noise they have to give you the car back in the same condition you gave it to them (no scratches, etc). not the terrible gamble people make it sound like.

if your noise is as loud as mine was and if it bothers you as much as it bothered me, do it. and btw i'm not the first one to solve this with felt strips. there's another forum member who had the exact same thing done.

I have the same issue 2012 135i, I have been to the dealer 3 times. Last time they ripped the dash out and supposedly found the part that was making "Contact" and added felt tape and silicone to that spot. It eased out the intensity of the rattle BUT IT IS STILL THERE!!! I am making another appointment for next week to see what they can do... one thing that really bothers me is rattles and the 1 series is like a maraca.... rattles all over the interior... never had this issue with my previous BMWs....

If they cannot fix it this time I will be sending a letter to BMW NA to see what they can do to resolve the issue. This sucks...

I am thinking about it.... I don't know if they'll do it for a rattle?.. I love the car but this rattles have ruined the experience completely.

I don't have this issue, is it a build date thing or is my car just too low in miles(25k miles)?

This would be a concern still I'm planning on buying my car at the end of the lease.

I doubt is milage or build date related as the issue has appeared in various year models. I have a 2012 and I experienced the problem in the first couple hundred miles.

Well, with my 2012 128 it only Pops in warmer, sunny weather when the car has been parked in sun and dash is quite hot, My theory is something to do with cold air from air conditioner hitting the hot ductwork. Mine stops popping after a few miles when temps equalize, also using a windshield sunscreen to reduce dash temp seems to help a good bit. Other than that no rattles at all at 14000 miles
