Replacement rotors, non OEM

There's an interesting thread over on M3post discussing alternatives to OEM rotors (~$1200 F/R) and the spendy BBKs out there.

http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=860667

Of particular interest to me was post #42 by Lufty which discusses the possibility of having sets made by Coleman Racing for a very economical pricepoint.

http://www.m3post.com/forums/showpos...5&postcount=42

The main issue at this point is getting a used set of stockers to Coleman so that proper measurements can be taken.

Is anyone remotely interested in this possibility?

I would certainly entertain the idea. Not really looking forward to having to replace my rotors. Luckily, I have found the rotors to be quite robust in stock form despite the punishment they have received.

Once I use up my store of rotors, I'll be moving to Performance Friction Direct Drive rotors -- a true floating rotor design (unlike our set-up).

Granted this is much less than a BBK but if the Colemans are viable performers offering OEM levels of performance and reliability for substantially less, then it's worth finding a set of toasted rotors to get these setup.

Not sure if they make the right size, but brembo OEM-style blanks are usually competitively priced.

Pair of fronts (hats and rotors) is about $1,060, not $2,100+.

While rotors are still steep at approx. $600/pr, I expect that they will handle abuse and last longer that the stock rotors.

I may have misunderstood the description on HP Autowerks but the $1060 price is listed as "priced per rotor" ... Perhaps Harold could help clarify ...

How much have you been paying for OE rotors in the used market place?

I am leaning towards going this route unless there is a better bang for buck option out there.

Won't BMW replace the rotors free once under the warranty/maintenance program?

Yes, more than likely they will change out your rotor at least once during the warranty period. I just had my pads replaced on all 4 corners and they said my rotor are still within spec. I'm hoping that my rotors will be out of spec by the time I'm due for service. I currently at 22k miles.

Hmm. I have 17k. The cracks in mine say they aren't spec. Lol. I'm gonna throw my dead pads in and see I can get them to do pads and rotors all around.

I have gotten a tons of life from my OEM rotors but they won't be free forever so an aftermarket option will be nice.

Yes, that is correct. They are $1060 for the pair, NOT $2100.

They will also last longer than stock or any other stock style rotors.

Thanks for clarifying this. (It might be worth getting rid of the "Priced per rotor" part in the description.)

I am generally impressed with the stock rotors holding up the way they have given the abuse they've endured.

That being said, I still think that getting Coleman to setup our rotors would be intriguing...

Another benefit of the PFC rotors - is weight savings.

According to HP Autowerks, you'll save 4 lbs per rotor over stock. And that's unsprung weight.

Thanks for catching that...I'll get it fixed.

Yes, that is a significant unsprung weight saving.
