It's twin turbo. The airbox shown in the pics of the engine bay is shaped to feed two turbos as on other N54 variants.

it the BMW press release it is written that it has two small turbos. But I am confused about the text as well. Technically, 2 twinscrol turbos are not possible with a 6 cylinder engine.

you know how twinscroll works? This is not possible.

In the press release it is written it has 2 small turbos filling 3 cylinders each, meaning normal N54 twin turbo.

Your saying a single turbo cannot be mounted on a n54?

I know what they said. But I also know twin~power is the new term for the twin scroll turbo on the 2011 and newer x35i models.

1M engine specs = z4 3.5is specs. Improvement in acceleration for both was also 0.4 from 0-100 compare to the x35i counter part. Apart from the extra cooling (just referring the engine), I couldn't see any improvements over the z4 is, just looking at its specs. The difference is the 0.4s improvement for the z4 was achieved using a DCT, while both the 135i, 1M both uses a manual transmission.

It doesn't answer the poser question, but on the surface, it seems that both engines are the same - ie twin turbo, but the results are somewhat different?

Are these the same turbo part numbers though as found in all N54 engines? That's what I want to know.

what I was referring to is putting 2 twin scroll turbos on a N54 (or any 6 cylinder engine).

Good question, especially since there had been a couple of seemingly credible reports suggesting that the N54 was fit with upgraded turbos.

However, I don't believe that this is the case since the hp/torque figures that have now been published are identical to the Z4 sDrive35is.

Based on this, I suspect that the hardware and software are the same.

I would, of course, be delighted if I were wrong!
